Alright I got my Ss swing arm today!!! YAY!
I have a ton of the bike torn down and looking for some guidance.
What do I need to do to retain the factory ride height on my 09 12R besides adding some type of spacer like Xtremelow did?

the only other option rather than a bracket to mount between is to cut the lower shock mount and re-weld it back on about 2" further forward, but that will still only get you the stock Scg height, if you want it S/R height you would then need a custom welded on piece.
None of the stock shocks are long enough to just bolt up and make it work like I am assuming you want. You may be able to find a shock from another bike that is the needed length but what make and model I have no clue.
a bracket is the simplest way.
mine, note if you don't have a tail lift as I use to not have you need to then cut a section of the battery tray.

Looks good but watch the fuel line as it will rub on the frame when it compresses, if you don't have adequate added height for the swing arm.
Mine when. It was dropped without any bracket.

yeah, but it doesn't do much while your hands are soaked in gasoline. Gas kept me clean though.
