The quote below from the Buell XB Buyer's Guide post got me thinking a bit:

QUOTE: Ask, is it tuned? and who tuned it? make sure it's reputable tuner. If it's not tuned and has a K&N and aftermarket muffler, this could be bad in the long run.

Quick back-story: I recently pulled my Daytona Twin Tec Tuner (per forum recommendation) from my recently purchased '03 XB9S because it was lurching/skipping at 3200-3500 rpms in various gears. Additionally, the engine light had been coming on when running at 65mph for extended period s of time. In any case, I pulled it and am back to stock and it seems to run 100% since them, but I'm now wondering because i DO have a K&N air filter and Jardine CF exhaust if I need to adjust my ECM? OR, am I good as is. Please advise.

it's not optimal but it'll run that way. getting a custom tune for your setup is what will work best (talk to theoctopus or click on the tuniversity link on the side of the page), or you could flash a race map and it should still improve it a bit.

Like wolf said...it will run. But the engine will be so lean I'd be surprised if you make another 25000 miles on it before a rebuild. Tune it! Quick! There a do it yourself or octo is a good way to go if you don't like to figure thing out for yourself...but it's pre 08 so......its pretty easy.

Definitely interested in doing some tuning...via ECMSpy? I understand the software now costs. Is this correct? Any thoughts on where to begin or how to set up a map for an 03 XB9S + KN filter + CF Jardine? There are some eBay offers out there for the cable + Buell maps. Is this the route to go? I like to learn and do things on my own when I can but will proceed with caution...

check the do it yourself in this forum. you need megalog viewer....15$ a cable and ecmspy.....and reading time ask question if you got them. but do exsecpt people to hold your hand if your looking for that use the tunivercity. hell get you hooked up

[down]most of the people on here didnt have their bike tuned by a reputable tuner.you can ride it like it is but having the proper tune is always the best.

I provide a number of tuning services, and am currently running Black Friday specials. Feel free to check out my site: The Tuniversity. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me for any questions, comments, or concerns.
