GOduc - what evidence to you have that they are sub-par tires? The OP's riding style may be such that his tire choice is what he wanted/needed.
BUT...if you have some data on these Avons, please share!

What's wrong with the tires. I have them on my bike and would buy another set. Good grip and good mileage. What more could you ask for? Also let us know what you think of the rotors. I'm in the market over the winter here.

avon ****ters were on my buell the day i picked it up. dont have pics or anything, i would call myself a seasoned rider, 14 track days. and there is NO grip on these thigns whatsoever, i wouldnt lean these things over for any reason, even if it was 100 degrees out and sticky. all the evidence i have, i guess, they're a touring tire, and not where you get good grip.
i would go with something liek the dunlop q2-got 6000 miles out of my last set and i ride them like this. or the michelin pure's, or the continental race attack dots, and the bridgestone bt3rs, or the pirelli rossa corsa. all have very good grip and are DOT tires i have personally tried. i have run the avon and GOOD GRIP will never be in the same sentence

Rotors look the biz. You need to do the hidden caliper mod in the back.

I had Avons once before and they did fine. Tech's come a long way since; I'm sure they'll serve you well.

Bad ass. Looks awesom Wave rotors are def. on my list.
I got a brand new set of Avons free( can't remember the model) and the rear was showing cords at 800 miles. Now I will admit I didn't check the PSI till it was too late but I only had the tires on for like 6 weeks so... I'll never use Avon tires again. Free or not.

One of them is installed backwards. Which way is the correct direction for the rear rotor?

Looks awesome!
The Avons are some of the best ST tires there are. I've done almost 100k miles on them, I think you'll be very happy.
Saying that you should buy race/track day tires like pures or q2s rather than sport touring tires is just silly as they are for completely different purposes.

Goduc your complaining about tires and you say the Dunlop q2 are good? I've had two sets and they are garbage. Lasted me about 3000 miles and zero grip, the only tires I've liked are the pirellis and the Michelin power pures.

OP's rotor is on backwards.
Before GOduc responds, and we have a **** storm up in here.
rrh i dont think anyone is going to take your word for anything on this website without proof.
BUT were theses the tires you had on when you were doing a 160mph on your buell? 160 is going to wear down your tire pretty fast man, good grip? They got you there didnt they?

I've used two sets of Q2s and got 3k from the rear and 6k out of the front.

I have tried Pirelli, Pilot Power, Q2 and Avon Viper 2 tires. The Avon Viper 2 I liked the most, I got about 8,000 miles out of them. I ride my bike on a daily basis and put a lot of miles on. I liked the way the Avon Viper performed and wanted to get a little more mileage out of my tires. So I decided to go with the Avon Storm 2 Ultra. The Storm 2 is the Viper 2 with a harder center. I am not bias toward any tire brand. The Storm 2 fits my needs.
As for the bearings. I got them at a good price, $40 for front and rear. The OEM ones cost about $35 a pair.
I dont really think I have much more stopping power, but my rotor is not warped anymore. So applying the brakes now has a more progressive feel with the new rotors. I also used the mounting hardware from Erik Buell Racing.
The CR and XB use the same wheel. So if I took the wheel off of my XB and put it on my CR, the slots on the rotor would be facing forward. If I took the wheel off of Baal's bike and installed it on my CR the slots on the rotor would be facing the rear. Im not sure which is right or wrong it just made sense to mount the rotor in the direction I did. The instuctions did not specify which direction was correct.

Aibu just want to apologize for the immature people that have to start arguments in othe people threads.
I wish I could get 8000 on a tire I think the most I've had was maybe 5000.

Nope they are of you
As to the direction of the rotor, I don't think it matters. I called Braking, and the answer was some combination of they didn't know, didn't care, it didn't matter, and "Buell?" IIRC, they finally told me that the markings on the disc should be facing outboard, which is how I have it. Visually, the other way looks more "right," but if Braking doesn't know... [confused]

Direction does NOT matter. Rotors look awesome. Ill be supporting EBR's rear rotor when im ready.

Trash talking is uncalled for and I don't (usually) support it. But to a degree, I think GOduc has a point. Looks like you spent some coin on those killer brakes. Tires are just as important. I've never used your tires and I even think some of the recommended tires in this thread are crap. Either way, we're not trying to steer you in the wrong direction. Although comments can seem harsh, most are just looking out for your safety. We're all brothers to some extent on here. But we are all buellers, so that means we're stubborn and......EXTREMELY AWESOME

All I saying is the tires connect you to the ground, you can have all the suspension setup you want but your tires will either make you or brake you. And you can't have a tire get a **** ton of miles and be soft and sticky at the same time. You want high mileage it will be at the expense of grip and if you want grip it will be at the expense of mileage. Now also, I don't dog on my **** on a regular basis like the picture iposted up there with the q2. I check my air pressure honestly, no BS, before every ride so the engine will run for a minute or two before ijump on it. What's just as important on how long a tire will last is the air pressure and how you ride it. I got 6000 miles out of my q2s because I took care of them the way they're supposed to be. Me in particular, I sacrifice a little mileage for grip which is why I ride tires like the dunlop q2, the Michelin pure, the continental race attack dot, and the bridgestone bt3. Everyone is different and in this case he chose Avon's and I'm sure he had his reasons for that. I just don't coincidence good grip with the Avon. Its a touring tire and probably will get decent mileage. But like I said, with that high mileage you lose grip since the ccompound is harder.

All good tire info GoDuc, i didn't want to quote the whole post and the Bridgestone part got me interested. I put BT-016 on mine and dammit if I've got 1000-1200 miles on them and they are wearing like **** in the middle.at this rate, I'll be out of them at 2500-3000. I do a lot of highway riding which warrants more straight line riding, don't do track days, but ride relatively hard when I have the chance. I live out in the country so I can get away with it a little more. But even with the harder middle, they're just getting chewed up and really starting to flatten out. Tire says 42psi, dealership says 36.
Point being, I'd rather get mileage on mine as I'm not out trying to kill it every ride, and definitely won't buy bridgestones again. I'd be interested in a tire that will last longer.
What tires do you recommend for mileage?

One thing that might be being overlooked is location. When I-15 changes from Utah to Idaho you can hear the change in tone on the tires. I skunked a Corsa III in 175 miles (80-110 mph) on the coarse Idaho highways.

Michelin pilot powers or power roads. And like I mentioned. Check your air pressure ALL THE TIME. you may be surprised on the fluctuations .

Saying that you should buy race/track day tires like pures or q2s rather than sport touring tires is just silly as they are for completely different purposes.
And I don't mean to kick a dead horse, I agree you shouldn't compare apples to oranges in most cases. The Avon is a touring tire and the purest ands q2s actually fall into a supersport category. Race tire......fraid not. If you check with manufacturer, they sell both of those tires as 90% street and 10% track. The 90% track tire of Michelin is the power one. (http://www.michelinmotorcycle.com/index.cfm?event=performance) andfor dunlop it will be one of these. (http://dunlopracing.com/tires-products/). So q2's and pures would be street with OCCASIONAL track use

tires? i prefer shinko, IRC, kenda, and cheng-chin. $119 for a pair...fits all XB models. erik buell's pic was even on one of the tire labels. but then i never ride on wet roads, never go over 30mph, and never leave my development. so there.
