I'm located in Oklahoma and have been scouring the local Craigslist for XBs and thought I'd post here. This is my first bike since I was a kid, and I just can't get myself to by a SV650 for a beginner (recommended) when all I want is a Buell!

If anyone has a bike that is close, id love to check it out.

I have found 2 ads and i thought I'd ask opinions on these:

This first one has low miles, and is black which I prefer, but has been dropped before

This one looks nice and sounds like it has been taken better care of but has twice the miles
http://kansascity.craigslist.org/mcy/2727968653.html

With these bikes, should I even be worried about miles in this range (< 15k)? Thank you and I'm hoping to here back from a local and a fellow member.

both look good, I wouldn't worry about a drop in a parking lot, just check to see what it damaged. and as long as the maintenance has been done regularly they'll last a long time.

Welcome to a fellow Oklahoman. I live in Tulsa btw.
If you want a Buell then do not settle for anything else. Afterall it is your money right? The first bike you posted only has one frame puck and like you said it has been dropped. Which isnt that big of a deal UNLESS it was dropped on the frame when there wasn't a frame puck. You know? Did he buy the puck to hide the damgage and if so what does it look like underneath that puck. Sometimes slight frame damage can total a Buell because the frame is the tank on ALL XB models. Hopefully you knew that.
That being said, the second listed might be a better choice if he comes down a little more like maybe 3500.00. Dont be afraid of the mileage. MY bike has 33,000 maintenence free miles on it.

Thanks guys for your quick response. You've also strengthened what I've heard about these bikes handling miles with little worry.

I was concerned about the damage on the dropped bikeso I asked a few more questions. It was dropped on the side with the puck. Interesting there is only one?!? He said it has a clean title and trusts it to easily go cross-country. I asked for a picture and this is what I got:

(Posted both links since image didn't show up in preview, sorry)

Should this scare me away? I'm not sure what is under that piece, but a hole into the engine can't be a good thing, right? Or am I just freaking out and it just a simple replaceable part that doesn't matter? Thanks guys. I hate this whole choosing bikes without knowing what I'm doing, but this forum gives me security that I can ask knowledgable people technical questions. Thanks guys/gals.

I live in OKC as well and recently found this forum. I looked at those two as well. Thought the damage was enough to push me away. But the hero looks nice if they have some service records. Good luck hunting for the elusive xb.

My bike just rolled over 20 thousand this season with no issues whatsoever. I would be more worried about the one that has been dropped. :D

Thanks 2004xb12s, I think I'll take your advice and be more concerned with the one where I can see problems rather than make up unlikely problems due to miles.

DietSlinger, I found the perfect bike last year in Tulsa (I'm in Stillwater) and I just couldn't get it then. It was an 03 XB9S, but had a Firebolt tails section. It was a darker grey metallic with light grey tank decal and polished silver wheels. To this day, I keep think that it was THE ONE! But I'm glad that I saw it, because know I have a better idea of what I want. Good luck with your hunt also.

if it were me, I would keep looking. They are out there. I went and saw two other buells before I drove 250 miles both ways to buy mine. Deals will come up and most out there have been taken care of. I wouldnt go with the damaged one, enless you love building bikes. Then you could rebuild it with all brand new oem parts instead of hiding damage.

If your looking for a buell, and thats what you want, then do it right. Waiting sucks! but it might be worth your while.

Thank you squidbuellie, I have moved on from that bike. I agree with gtp3800, it might be tough, but it is probably worth the wait to find a better bike. I have spoken to the guy about the second bike I posted (06 XB9SX Blue Hero with 15k) and that sounds promising so far. The only reservation I had for that bike was the milage, but I think the 15k miles from a one owner, always garaged bike is worth considering.

Thank you again everyone for your comments. I'm glad to be apart of this community, now I just need to bike to be part of the "family". :)
