View Full Version : Homemade shift light?

I want to make a homemade shift light.
Possibly out of a led flashlight housing but obviously running off the 12v power from the bike. I like the raptor design but want to make one myself.
Anyone know the basic principle behind a shift light or possibly schematics to build one.
I know that after the time and effort put into it, it would probably make more sense just to just buy one. But that's me and I just love building stuff.
Thanks!

They're pretty inexpensive (<$100 or so). You're probably better off to buy one. The only problem is that most of the ones out there aren't water-proof so you have to be careful if you ride in the rain. Here's a thread on the one I have:

Good luck!

I think I just want to build one more than I actually want to have one.
Some one gets me the layout or plan and I'll build them for the price of parts and shipping.

This schematic is the base for most tach/shiftlights

Yes, ambition to do it yourself will get it your own made for you, but most of us, even techies, are going to be better off just buying one.

reminds me of the slammed-together Rupp minibike i had at age 10 with following faux performance package added by yours truly:
1. hand made TURBO decals on gas tank
2. pen-lite flashlight shift light on handlebars.
3. bernzo-matic empty lp tank on rear fender posing as nitrous bottle
4. chrome painted coffee can hanging off side of motor posing as blower.
5. 15HP decal on 4HP briggs motor posing as intimidation factor.
