But it's technically totaled. DMV would give it a salvage title. I say replace the frame as well.

Damaged frame....DMV doesnt care.

Unless it wasnt reported. If the damaged is fixed and a puck put over it the DMV would never know. Its kinda like carfax.....if its never reported to the insurance it never goes in the system and no one ever knows.

Could you buy it as a totaled vehicle for super cheap then put a new frame on? The frame would have a different VIN stamped in it so it would be a different (non-totaled) vehicle. Just an idea.

If its structurally sound, I would repair it with fiberglass gel to smooth it over give it a very good sanding and paint to match. I bet you can rattle can it and noone would know it. If its a DMV issue then I am not sure what I would do. If you are going to keep it forever then repair and ride.

If you are going to keep it forever then repair and ride.

If I was going to plan on keeping it forever I would want the frame replaced but thats probably my OCD. Even if it was covered and fixed I would still know there is a dent and that would bother me

Doesn't ASB sell frame covers as well? Not sure I'd go that route but it's an option...

I had the same issue when I dumped my Uly. The damage looks repairable, but it's never going to be perfect. The aluminum buckles a little bit, your probably going to be able to see it once you are done.

If you aren't that concerned about it, fiberglass filled bondo, elbow grease, paint job, and a frame puck.

gripster (http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-prodshow/16145.html)
Id fill the scratches get the buell rattle can touch up paint that matches then cover it all up with these and a puck then wrapp the header.
this is if your getting the bike at the right price witch im assuming is the case.
good luck bud

frame pucks and carbon covers will hide most if not all of that.

Just a little info. VA (where i live) has very tight restrictions when it comes to frame damage on cars and bikes. On my lighting, when the frame was nicked when it got knocked over, had a new frame replaced at a harley dealership, by state farm insurance. Nothing went on the title. Bikes are weird like that since a frame is a replaceable item. 99% of the time a bike can have a frame replaced and restamped with the original vin without being considered a salvage title or reconstructed title. Just my 2cents from my own experience. A new frame with the original vin from harley is 1900 and you must return the old frame to be given the new one. Just hope that helps.

Nice milage. well good luck getting it fixed up. Check with local harley dealership about the frame thing. not all states are the same. I forgot to mention that.

Id say its worth it. If you test ride it and it runs good it would be a farely cheap fix and for under $3000 a awsome bike

remove the paint around the area, feathering it out as you go. 1st: check for cracks in the affected area, if none noted. 2nd: using a fine flat file, remove the high metal, even strokes in one direction only, gently, it's aluminum. 3rd: fine grit sand paper to smooth it out further. 4th: isopropyl alcohol to clean off the entire area. 5th: zinc chromate primer 6th: paint 7th: clear coat it. 8th: install frame puck...have a nice day :D

mar67655: i believe you are on the right track with a fix. a complete frame swap is involved and can be mechanically intimidating. these dented aluminum frames are nicely repaired all the time. if you don't feel competent doing it, go to any decent local body shop in your area or vo-tech school with autobody class, ask instructor. any body shop guy is well versed in working with aluminum and recommending a good filler for your dent and how to correctly do it. OR they might do it for you at a reasonable price. ASB has mathcing frame paint and replacement pucks. IMO---when you get into thw world of frame replacement, VIN's, the drones at your local DMV, PENNDOT, any of those ass wipe agencies filled with kooks....you just entered into a world of problems, forms, endless notary work, the torment is endless. personally i'd fix it. but that's me.

Damaged frame....DMV doesnt care. Plenty of them on ebay for less than 200$

doesn't care about what? you ever personally deal with any of the larger state DMV's? yikes!

I say sand it and paint it. Not sure how big the dent is depth-wise, but it appears the puck would cover this. It is good karma to let next owner know regardless of whether you can tell if it went down or not afterwards. I have no problems with salvage bikes if they ride fine and had a black 06 12R that had some frame damage that rode just as well as my 04 12R.
