Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and a proud buell owner. I am interested in blacking out the frame and forks on my xb9sx like on the 2009 bike. Anybody know how I would go about this? Is it paint, or powdercoat? Can I do it myself?

I'd think paint would get scratched badly when you tried to reassembly the bike. For this reason, I didn't do it to mine. Powder coating would work and I believe what is factory, but, it would require a complete fork disassemble...

I read somewhere you need a certain primer for the paint to adhere to aluminum. Most have powdercoted the forks and i think i would be more durable. That being said i painted my tail rails and it looks great .

You can paint them or powdercoat them. If you have them powdercoated all rubber has to be off of them. The gas pump needs to be removed, the gas cap, a little rubber stopper underneath the tank up by the steering head all gas out of it and it has to be well aired out.. If you paint it everything can be left on it still.. painting is less of a hassle... powdercoating is more sturdy imo.
