no speedo no brakelight

Last week I took my 2000 P3 out for a first ride. When I left the house the speedo was working, when I left the gas station I noticed it wasn't. To further complicate things I also found that the brake light wasn't working. I ran through the diagnostic sequence on the speedo and got two malfunction codes: d02, Speed sensor power output shorted high or open, and d08, speedometer power over voltage. I suspect my speedometer and brake light problems are connected. Does anyone have a suggestion where I might start looking for the source of these problems?

Start checking wires would be my guess and fuses if you havnt already.

im having the same problem with my 08 blast... what did you find out and how did you fix it? Any advice you have on this issue would be a huge help.
