i just recently bought a 2001 buell blast with 2000 miles on it. i test drove it ran fine. picked it up from the guy and rode to work on it ran fine. try to start it at work wouldnt start seemed out of gas it was on reserve and the dude didnt tell me i need to gas it up. anyway. put preium gas in it and now it wont start just turns over and when it does it wont idle runs as long as i hold the throttle open also backfires after it runs then dies

Have you check the boot on the carb? between the carb and jug, a rubber connector. If it is not secure(leaking air) it will cause this trouble.

there was a boot split on the back side of the carb. Had 2 hose clamps on it. What exactly cause it to split like that? Is there an upgrade to a better boot or am I gonna have to change it once a year

The boots seem to last longer with the band style clamp and if your not useing the stock air box you should make a bracket to help support the carb and air filter.
