I just got back into riding again and after doing months of research, decided to buy a 2007 XB9SX - thanks to this website.

Which mod's should I attack first? I am not looking to spending hundreds of dollars on buying some expensive components that I just bolt on. Any suggestions would be helpful.

And sell me that tail section[cool]

Bike looks great.
IMO it could use a chin faring, and I'd pull of the passenger pegs & belt guards. And one of my favorite cheap & useful mods has to be the breather re-route.

Thanks!
Yeah, just took the hand guards off - I definitely like this look better. Now, how do I take these dang posts off? I used a vise grip and all I did was scratch up the paint.

Lol...Sorry, GAXB9R. Before buying this bike, I couldn't decide between XB9R or XB9S. But the tail section on the XB9S sold me on on it. I would like to do the tail lift on it but not sure how much height that adds to the seat - both of my feet aren't quite flat when I am at the stop lights.

First thing first, I would do the right hand scoop. Can buy it at Harley or ASB. Will lower engine heat at the rear cylinder ... then, after that ... pick one ............. or a few ... :D

Did the tail lift on my bike, does'nt had much to the seat height IMO

Do the turn signal mod to shorten the stems since its also free...or get you some Oberon LED signals!

May also want to get a low seat (SL or SCG) that will get you a little bit lower to the ground for about $100.

Forgot to mention you can also do the "both headlights on at once mod" to get a little more visibility and light on the road...

Isn't that a SCG seat ?

Big Twin - Thanks for the link. I've read couple of those mod's but not all in a single post. It will come in handy.

harrisiv - Yea, original turn signals will have to go. I am looking at some mini LED's on eBay (I know, cheap quality).
Question about the "both headlights on at once mod". When I have it on high beam, both lights stay on. Does this mean previous owner has already done the mod?

I checked the part number on the seat and it is a low seat. I am 5'8" but I guess my legs are too short - lol. I may get crazy and make my own "super low seat" :)

Seth - You did? :D You must saw it on eBay. It kinda shocked me when I won the auction on eBay. 5 hour one way drive to NE wasn't too bad although it was on Mother's Day.
Thanks for the comment. I won't get too crazy with mod's...for now. I am thinking about doing the "breather re-route" per 07Bolt's suggestion.

My guess is YES the mod as been done. It's supposed to be one light at a time for low or high.

i guess it's just me but always thought the stock hand guards look kind of sexy on the cityX. those in conjunction with heated grips(which are a cinch to install on a buell) keep your hands nice and toasty on those cool morning and evenings.

Cool! thanks for clarifying that for me, Big Twin. Any tip on removing tall posts left from the hand guard mount?

luna, I know I'll regret having hand guards when the weather cools down but I am going for the "cafe racer" look.

The long posts are two piece. Nut on top and bottom. You will need short replacements when you take them out. I leave my long posts on so the "cold day" riding fix is only minutes away.

1SWAT - Thanks for clearing that up. No wonder I couldn't just take the round barrel part off :p
You do have a good point. I guess it doesn't hurt to leave those on...I may just get couple shoulder bolts and thicker riding gloves :D You wouldn't happen to know how long the shoulder is on that bolt? Looks like it is about 1 in long. Sorry for being lazy
