View Full Version : Thinking about running no scoops at all.

I have a left and right side scoop but kinda want to take them both off. Anyone run their bike this way?

Plus it's an '04 so my intake goes through the frame. Any ideas if the lack of ram air will decrease perfomance?

I'd be more worried about overheating the rear cylinder

The hotter your heads run the worse your performance will be. It may be marginal but I would not want to subject my bike to anything that would effect performance or longevity. My fan would come on enough with both scoops, I would hate to have it come on even more, and I had an 03.

Its not that great of an idea. The scoops provide air flow over the rear cylinder to keep it cool. No scoops means less airflow which means hotter bike.

Not a very good idea,in particular with rear cylinder and right side because the headers are there and it will get real toasty without the scoops and it gets warm enough on hot days.

Not sure why you want to but I think that's asking for a problem. I wouldnt

I just want slim the front and down. Just think the stock scoop is bulky.

If you want to sacrifice function and durability - I think you should sell your Buell.

I bet you hate the look of the 1125's as much as I do. I agree with the majority on this one. Leave them on.

A friend of mine that rides yearround takes his off in the cold months, but always puts them back on when it warms up outside.

I say take them off. I've been wanting to try it on mine to clean it up. I also want to try moving the oil cooler and scoop. I've seen a few bikes on here without them. Lessthenzeros bike didn't have them and I think that's pretty much everyones favorite bike on here. I doubt it gets ridden much so who knows how the performance is. I don't think its going to effect it that much depending on where you live. I'm in northern ny where it rarely gets much above 80 so I'm not too worried about it

remove them along with the rear cylinder cooling fan. might as well go all the way with this. then report back how long motor lasts until meltdown. i'm curious myself about this.

It's a bad idea, and yes it heats up substantially faster and will overheat. the front cylinder is blocking the air from getting to the rear, that's why the scoops are there to redirect it.

I've done it by forgetting to put them on and you notice the heat.

I'll agree that less_than_zero has a sexy bike, but it's obviously a show bike.

If your that worried about the heat u could wire up the fan to a manual switch and run it all the time while riding

Work great if you never started the bike.

a solution for your may be to run the type of scoops that xtremelow runs on Warhorse.
(the pics on the link show them from several angles)

I believe they are a Trojan Horse product and they provide the much needed cooling directed air flow but will give you the clean lines your looking for.

I agree with the trojan ones they look nice. I definitly don't think they flow much air though.

Has anyone actually ran with no scoop and had overheating problems on here?

I took off the factory left side scoop back around 05, 06.... Been running it that way ever since. Didn't notice any difference.

Hmm TooFst that's interesting.
So you didn't sell your buell because a bit form?
You didn't turn the fan off and watch it melt?

Lesley man that's one the biggest reasons I can't wrap my head around buying an 1125r/cr.

in the above picture i see that he has no scoops but still has some sort of intake with a filter on it, directing the airflow through the frame and into the airbox, i dont think hes running it without no scoop at all, he still has some sort of airflow, thats just what im gathering from the pic

I run the trojan horse, left and right, and didnt notice any difference in heat or performance. I live in Sofla.

i just hate the look of two scoops or one. got to do something with the oil cooler though, thats my next project

@ seth terror the pic above he has no scoop at all. the filter is for the intake. he ran tubbing through the hole in the frame directly to the throtte body. there is nothing directed at the rear cylinder.

if you have an older style buell with the hole in the frame you will have to get the newer vented airbox cover or cut yours open and put vents in like i did.http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/6599_20101105105825_L.jpg
