So I have owned my Buell XB12Ss for a while now and have wondered over the years if I could actually change it to fit me better. I got a screaming deal on it so I couldn't pass it up at the time but I believe the Ss is really meant for a taller person. I am not that tall, so is it possible to change the Ss to a shorter height/length to match maybe a Scg?
If I missed a post that is already covering this topic please feel free to leave that instead of a full comment. Just curious if it is a possible do or if the body and frame are completely different in models.

IIRC the frame is the same and the forks, rear shock, and swing arm is what is different.
I'm not positive though...

I thought the frame was longer. (extra capacity for gas)

You would have to change a lot of parts. I have an Scg, and am 6'2", could probably use the Ss better. The seat and suspension on Scg are lower. However I dont think you can put an Scg seat on the Ss. If it does fit, that would move you down 1-1.5".

That would be a start I tippy toe a lot. When I am moving I don't notice it to much more when I am stopped! HA!

The frame is the same length as the S/R frame, squidbuellie made a thread about it with pics. The swingarm is longer. All you will need is a scg/low rear shock (yellow), scg/low lower triple (41mm), and a scg/low kickstand. The shock mount on the Ss frame is lower than the S/R frame so there is no need to make a spacer like you need to do when putting a Ss swing arm on a standard S/R frame.

Wolf - I checked on some specs and it looks like you may be right about the frame. The Scg holds about 3.8 and the Ss holds about 4.4.
I wonder if I were to at least change forks, seat, and rear suspension if that would mess with the center of gravity giving me a crap bike?

the capacity change was just from the turbo hole being part of the tank then.

Why do people think the scg has a smaller gas tank... It has the same size tank as the S/R. The only bikes with a different size tank are the Ss/STT/ and the Uly, and the 03-05 bikes because they had a hole in the frame.
A SCG is exactly the same as the standard height bikes except for the SUSPENSION and the SEAT, the frame rails are the same as a standard lightning also.
Pre '06 = 3.7 gallon fuel tank
'06 - Later = 3.82 gallon fuel tank - (SS Model = 4.4 gallon fuel tank)
(This was due to earlier years having an air "hole" through the frame, as pictured below.Â* Of course the latter models don't.)

Isn't the extra fuel capacity just due to them closing off the hole in the frame for the intake?

oh9bolt - but we are comparing the Scg to the Ss so yes it does have a smaller capacity you said it your self. If it is because of a hole being sealed then awesome I shouldn't have to worry about length, etc.

It was a little bit of a rant on my part. :)

I put SCG suspension on my R, by myself with a 2 broken vertebrae, it is a easy job get the parts I said earlier and you will be fine.

do you know how the R is different then the Ss?

In what way? Suspension?

the subframes have different mounting points I believe, otherwise it uses the stock shock.
I didn't think the scg had a smaller frame, just that the ss had a longer frame instead of just having the hole sealed.

I was even meaning basic is the R known to be lower or longer or whatever? But that worked thanks again lots of good info here

The r front juts out further otherwise I think the ride height is pretty even. The s can have a low seat though.

One thing to note (I swapped my SCG stuff for SS stuff): The steering stops on the SS and SCG are different, and will have to be modified. For your SS, you'll have to grind off the side stops and "make" a stop in the center of the lower triple.
Also, the SS shock will not fit in the SCG--the remote reservoir line is in the way...

I am 5'8'' and have a 09SS. I am getting the seat redone at a local place to have it lowered about a inch and the sides taken in about a half inch. I figured it should give me about a inch and a half more of foot on the ground. Right now I am tip toe with both feet, but when stopped I can lean the bike slightly and put one foot on the ground.
I am keeping the passenger portion the same thickness for the girlfriend because she says it is the most comfortable of any of the bikes she has been on.

Ha ha I am the same height and you speak my language. However, my girlfriend says her seat is more comfortable then being behind me and that is on her own bike. Don't they sell, or didn't they sell, a shorter seat for our Ss? Maybe I should start their just worried I will lose some cushion.

If done right it should improve the bikes agility. The Scg's are the most nimble of all Buells because of the lowered center of gravity. Some do not like the ride because an scg does bottom out sooner. IMHO the SCG has the best stance of all the BMC line.

Have you thought about doing a tail swap? I did on mine (an STT) and it helped a lot

I think I will start with the lowered seat I actually found that for $100 still have difficulty finding Scg parts. I am really trying to avoid HD for parts anymore.

My STT shock was white, and the SS shock I received in trade for my Scg shock was white too, and definitely longer....
