What type of Oil is best for a 2003 Buell Firebolt XB9?

Hey Everyone,

I just proudly picked up my new-to-me Firebolt on July 4th.

They owner of the bike said he hasn't riden the bike for about 3 years and his wife wanted him to get rid of it. Too bad for him.

The bike will need a oil change so my questions is simple.

What type of oil is best to use in a Firebolt?

I use 20w50 Mobil 1. About 2 1/2 quarts in the oil and 1 quart in the primary. I use the 20w50 in both holes, but you can always use primary oil in there If you prefer! Other will recommend different oils, their all different! I've used Harley Davidson 20w50 also and both of these work great.

the brands members use the most are amsoil and mobil1 vtwin.do not tighten drain plugs to factory specs you will strip the threads.

Mobil1 v-twin 20w50 with a Mobil 1 M1-103 filter. I would use redline but I can't find it anywhere around here.

canola oil i like it because it makes my exhaust smell like french fries.


any 20w50 synth will do fine on your bike it is all the owners choice. to really tell the difference in the big 3 amsoil royal p and mobile 1 you would have to examine it on a molecular level which no one here does. try some oils out and find what you and your pocket book like and then ride

I used Mobil 1 bc it was easily accessible. Plus it needed a new oil and primary change terribly bad because the previous owner didn't change it in three years. Crazy right?
