New here and new to Buell but not bikes. I picked up a pretty sweet 2008 XB12Scg today with only 2000 miles on it. Cherry red. The check engine light is on and we think it's because the bike has been sitting a while. Maybe something to do with the gas. I rod it about 40 miles today and all seems well with no issues. I've read on here somewhere that you can jump some wires to read the codes. I don't even know where that plug in is. I need to find a manual for it also. Any tips or ideas on the check engine light? Thanks in advance!

Welcome[up] if it's been sitting you better change the oil. or did you check the oil before you rode it?

Thanks everyone! Yes, the oil was just changed but I'm going to change it over to Amsoil full synthetic shortly.
Is the diagnosic plug under the seat? And once I read the code and fix the problem, how do I reset so the engine light goes off? I'm going to need to get a service manual.

Okay. I have a code "21" Interactive muffler control. Where do I go from here? I've read about this before. Is this the valve that they say sometimes sticks and is it easy to get to to clean it up and unstick it?

Is this the valve that they say sometimes sticks and is it easy to get to to clean it up and unstick it? yes it is or the actuator on the airbox i have an extra actuator if you need it.

Thanks anrkizm95! I'll keep that in mind. I've got to switch gears and finish wet sanding and buffing my other bike I just painted to put it on the market. Then I'll check that actuator out and I'll let you know. I haven't even looked how to get to it. I'm guessing it fairly easy?

anrkizm95, I pulled the cover off tonight and did the cycle test I read about. Hold throttle wide open with run switch on then turn key and the actuator didn't do anything. Cable moves freely. What do want for the actuator that you have? How old is it and what year did it come off of? Let me know.
thanks!

has it got a stock muffler? or an air box delete. it may be unplugged under the air filter cover. some guys do an air box delete and just leave the wire hanging. its no problem if thats the case but the light will always go...
