So, I just bought myself a 2007 XB9SX, woohoo!! Anyways, I figured a good place to start would be changing all the fluids. Long story short, I don't have a maintenance stand, so I had my wife sit on it and keep it level while I filled the primary through the clutch inspection hole. It took the entire quart and still didn't come close to the bottom of the clutch. Well, it's close, but some guys are claiming it takes 7/8 of the bottle...it seems I could add a little more than a quart, but I stopped with one bottle...

Should I fill it to the bottom of the clutch with a little more oil or call it good at one solid quart? And yes, I put the drain plug back in before I started adding oil, lol!!

You're filling from the bell shaped cover right? Not the smaller, primary chain tension inspection cover...

It is very easy to search. :D

First link (http://www.google.com/search?q=buell+xb+primary+oil+change&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&client=safari) is a video how to.

Ive watched the video, my question is, will it hurt to add more than 1 quart in the bell-shaped cover? It seems 1 quart didn't fill it to the bottom of the clutch. Or should I just leave it at one quart?

exactly how far away is it? Mine usually takes just under 1 qt [confused]

I guess I should mention, I'm not using the primary chain inspection hole, but the clutch adjustment hole as it states in the manual. Most of the threads I've read say, just pour in a quart in the chain inspection hole and forget about it. Some guys said that doing this might fill the oil enough to partially submerge the clutch in standing oil causing a drag on the clutch. This is why I figured the first time I change the primary oil, I'd use the bell-shaped hole to verify the level and how "deep" 1 quart actually is on my bike. I did this yesterday btw, so I'm assuming 1 quart, as long as its not submerging part of the clutch, is adequate? This is my concern.

And if a moderator sees this, I meant to post in the main forum, not the aftermarket forum. My apologies.

I also use the bell shaped cover. I pour until just like my service manual says, I think right up to the bottom of the clutch cable or something like that. I don't think I've ever actually put a FULL qt in, nearly though.

Maybe 1/4 to 1/2 an inch below the clutch when the bike is sitting upright.

I suppose I'll pull the cover off again just to verify after work. Thats the diagram I was going off of, I just thought it was odd that 1 quart didn't quite get it there.
