Hey all, didn't want to start a new topic, but I didn't want to hijack another person's topic and steer it from their direction.

I've been riding for months with my fuel light coming on and off intermittently. Then I would have stuttering problems, which I replaced the original factory battery and things started working great. Now my pump won't stop priming. I just read some good advice from vance580 about finding a set of wires which go to the fuel sensor and the fuel pump, and replacing them and the harness before more damage is done (see topic: need help 06 xb9sx). Thanks, Vance.

My question is, where would I find these wires? How easy would it be to replace the harness? And, he recommended changing the o-rings, filter and screen. Is this necessary too? Thanks.

There are many posts on this topic. This is one of them - I also have a link off my profile.

The 'O' rings would be very cheap insurance because removing the fuel pump is something of a pain in the butt. The filter and screen are also maintenance items so while possible not absolutely necessary they are a lot easier to do while you have the pump assembly out.

You are exhibiting two of the three symptoms that are noticeable with the wires wearing through inside the fuel pump - the third one is blowing fuses when the power wire wears through and that is probably terminal if it strikes.
Having had this wire issue, if I were you I would plan a pump removal ASAP.

You can either repair the wires or replace the internal pump loom that is (at least was) available as a part for the earlier XB's ( P0194.3A8) and comes with the extra protective sheathing it should have had on the '06 factory fit).

The wires are inside the fuel tank so you have to pull the the fuel pump.

Once the pump is out, you repair the wires on the pump then sip tie the wire together so they wont chafe again.

Replace the seals and filters because they are known to go bad and they are cheap.

Thanks to both of you! Looks like I have my work cut out finding some parts and mounting the bike for the pump removal. But you may have saved another XB. I'll do this once I run out some of my fuel.
