Hello, I have a 12Ss 2009 lightning with a D&D pipe, race ECM tuned for the D&D & a K&N air filter. I am also approaching the 16,000km major maintenance intervalt.
I just recently started to ride at higher RPMs (third gear is at 5000rpm 120kph, before that I was riding around 4000rpms) now the bike is hesitating & sputtering when I accelerate out of third & into 4th. Also when I de-accelerate from the highway to a traffic light the bike stalls when I am in neutral waiting for the light to change. This all started to happen when I changed my riding habits to higher rpms about 2 weeks ago.
There are also no warning lights at all that appear on my dash.
What could be the problem?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Green Skull

Welcome to the Forum! Since I do not know of your Skills level I will start with the small things first. Start with a Resetting of your TPS(the Throttle position Sensor reset) is very important to the 2008 through the 2010 Buells.OR Any Buell.
Just follow the instructions here on the Forum for the Key Turn Method,POST up if you can't find it. IT does not matter if the ECM is A Race OR Stock.
If the TPS does the Trick then you will be fine for a bit. I reset my Bikes TPS every 2/fillups so the Bike Idles properly.
I don't wait till the Bike Stalls and Sputters to me the 08+ Buells may need the TPS reset more but the Reset is so easy I only take about 25/seconds to do it!With some Practice! It works better if the Bike has been run for a short amount of time. There is no Idle screw to worry with the ECM does all the proper adjustments.
You might want to check the Throttle Body for some light Build up just get a good shop RAG and put some Carb Cleaner on it and Hold the Throttle Wide open(Engine OFF!)Key OFF- wipe out the build up. Once done with that try to reset the Throttle with the TPS method for the 08+ bikes.
Hopefully that will get you by for a While! Should you find that the Throttle Position Sensor is in Need of Replacement IT is easy to install as long as you take your [time], it is only TWO Bolts 7mm- it will take a combination wrench-7mm for the Lower bolt.
WATCH how you remove it closely!make sure the Throttle blade(Butterfly)stays in the closed position, the lower bolt will not come all the way out of the TPS Sensor(rear rocker cover is in the way) and the lower bolt will have to come out at the same time AS the TP/Sensor does and goes back the same way!.
Make sure to stuff a rag in the Throttle body so nothing drops down in the Intake LIKE that little O'ring. Also check for Intake leaks at the Seals if the problem continues.
THE TPS sensor should come with NEW Bolts if not make sure to replace them with the FACTORY Bolts, they are Zinc save those small Flat washers and reuse them. The Threads on the Old Bolts may still have sealant on the Threads clean them off if you must[reuse] them, When retightening the bolts make sure to just Snug the Two Bolts nicely so you don't Wring off the Bolt heads.
Well I hope this helps to at least get you started in the Right Direction. Remember Small Things First! TPS Reset then go from there.Check your Spark Plugs if you have More than 7'500/miles on them For your Bike the NGK-DCPR9EIX spark plugs work very well. The Harley Plugs will work also.
NGK plugs have to be Gapped a certain way the Electrodes Tip can be damaged very easily. If you must set the gap on NGKs then just don't touch the Electrode tip. Post up if you need and someone on the Forum will help.Good Luck .*Jimi
