Does the CEl turn off after the defective part is replaced or does it take the 50 starts without a problem for the light to go off.
I had 3 codes fuel pump, IAT sensor, and exhaust servo. I replaced the fuel pump, pressure regulator, and the fuel filter. Now the CEL its still lit.
I thought it was because I had unplugged them during testing.
My exhaust servo also sounds like it is tweaking out like the motor is going nuts. Who all uses the exhaust servo eliminator and has anyone had problems with them? My exhaust is wire open all the time and the cables have been taken out the servo just sits in the air box anyway. Also where are you guys with the eliminator grounding the wire to that comes on the eliminator?
Thanks for any help and advice in advance!

Yes the Exhaust Servo on the Bike is not of the Best Quality made materials. The Muffler Valve inside the Muffler needs to be opened.use the Data Port Plug to pull the code you are now experiencing for the Newer Bikes like 08+ Buells. If the Cable is not Connected up top of the Actuator then the Muffler may need to be looked at.
American Sportbike.com has an Emunlator to keep the cel from coming on if the Actuator up top of the inner air box if unpluged will set a code also, if you have changed the Exhaust OR if the Exhaust you have has the Butterfly valve inside that will have to be changed or Removed so the Muffler and Engine can work Breathe properly.
My 08+ Buell XB12R while under Warranty had to replace the Upper Exhaust Actuator 2/times. I said that's it And Removed the Stock Exhaust and Gutted the Stock and Kevin Reworked it . Sent it to Kevin at KD Fab.com Hickory N.C. and the Econo Drummer works so well and the Sound is great.
The ECM I retuned to match the Exhaust and Mesh Air Filter(K&N) runs better and very little Poping on Decelleration. If you don't do any tuning Erik Buell also has a Good ECM for your Bike once you get the Problems Ironed out.Take your time and post up if needed.*Jimi

Ok so the question remains does the cel go off after the failing part is replaced or after 50 starts with the bad part replaced?

Cel will go off with problem solved. Codes may still be on ECM Currant or Historic, but will not make the cel stay on. 50/starts just for clearing codes w/out a computer.
For buells The cel should go out unless you have a bad part elsewhere. You can Ground the Emunlator for the Active Exhaust sometimes on the closest bottom plate bolt for the Air filter area OR the Engine or frame.
Yes Starting it 50/times is supposed to reset. You should not need to waste 50/start ups if the Bike is correct it will go off after the parts are installed.
Any time you change a Electrical part such as ECM /02 Sensor Throttle position sensor(TPS)-Idle Air Control-(IAC)- the Throttle position needs to be Reset.
The Voltage needs to be checked at the battery just in case it is not charging properly sometimes the regulator or Stator and the cel will come on but not set a code. It will just stay on till fixed. If the Engine runs correctly just go through the work done check voltage,TPS reset with Key Switch (08+) bikes.
After that if cel stays on after riding the bike then recheck for any new codes.Hope it is an easy fix. *Jimi

so in resetting the TPS, will ecmspy do the trick, since the manual calls for the "digital technician", which if you're not a HD dealer, one just can't buy it off the shelf? I replaced the fan and IAT and CEL is still on, fan won't come on either, so I'm puzzled, pull my hair out trying to figure it out, any help would be appreciated, oh forgot to mention, I did the 50 start/30 sec run and no joy, CEL still on.

Yes ECMSpy should do the trick on just a TPS reset for the older bikes remember to back off the Idle screw on the Pre /07 Bikes keep it clean in the Throttle body. 08+ Buells have no Idle Screw to set..Reset the TPS and make sure to check the Temperature sensor. Possibly your Voltage Regulator needs to be checked for the continued cel and the Connector to it, after TPS is reset. Make sure to properly charge the Battery OUT of the bike,Reinstall and then start your work.
Sometimes when you reset some areas of the Bike with ECM Spy it can turn off something SAY like the o2 sensor etc.Sometimes easy to overlook I've done that MySelf . Start with your TPS reset first then go on to the Fan. Once you do your TPS reset Use the bike itself to test theTPS for Idling/startup and then the fan. Make sure to put a fan in the Front of the Engine for cooling the Front head(not needed) if you don't have one but I do that in the shop OR at home for YES I kinda Baby my own Bikes and customers bikes all of them when working on them, not to mention it keeps down the Exhaust fumes and so on.
So many Bikes have Reflashed Maps in the ECM so changes made need to be read and Studied.
When using ECMSPY on your bikes make sure to take your time and really check your work.
You can test the fan and temp sensor at the same time by just starting the bike let it Idle for at least 4/ to 5 minutes TOPS- no more than that especially if the fan did not come on while Idling..
If Fan comes on After the Engine is shut down then go from there. You may need to test the fan seperately if last resort is needed,Possibly something small like a connection/ground etc., hope so.Good luck *Jimi
