hey, have any of you guys ran tomahawk tires.
they have good reveiws and the price is right ($89.99 shipping included 180/55/17). the fact that it is a recap scares me. they are z rated. i put a drill bit through my tire with a little under 5000 miles on it. went through bottom and sidewall it was olny an 1/8 so i dont know if i should tube it or replace it on the cheap with a tomahawk

[confused].

I had a friend install a set of tomahawks on his F4i. He had no problem with them ... only complaint was poor grip, other than that they were good to go. Burnouts are pretty funny with those tires too... they don't smoke they just scream!!

one thing you dont want to skip out on is grip i would push out the extra cash and get some pilot powers or something to that degree

i'm not sure what pilot powers are but tomahawk offers two tread patterns and a couple compounds and found the t1 pattern with sport compound for $73.95

* The first dual-compound performance tire with an intermediate compound in the center of the tread for durability, and a softer compound on the shoulders for cornering grip
* Rubber compounds developed through Moto GP racing require minimal warm up time
* The softest rubber mix in its class for remarkable grip and maintains performance even at advanced stages of wear
* Unprecedented lean angles 50.6 degrees dry and 41.9 in the wet
* Rubber mix remains tacky even at low temperatures
* Grooved area is less than 12% of the tire area for phenomenal cornering adhesion
* W-rated for speeds up to 168 mph

Iv got a Pilot Road 2 190 on the back of my Firebolt best tire iv ever rode on. Iv never ran Tomohawks, but for 75-80 bucks I wouldnt prolly. You get what you pay for, id rather dump the extra 75-100 clams on the tire now than thousands down the road in repairs and insurance premiums. Good luck in your decision![up]

Just buy some bridgstone tires, they are about as cheap. I've never heard of tomohawks, and would probably never use them even if I had...

You get what you pay for. Pirelli Diablo Corsa III. That's my choice. I have the Rosso's right now but can't go wrong with a Pirelli.

"Want to scrape your peg feelers around corners and make it home in one piece, go with a Pirelli. Want to scrape your bar ends and make it home in pieces, go with the Tomahawks"

Don't get me wrong... These tires are by no means a Pilot Power or Battlax... Like i said before I stand by Michelin.... You get what you pay for ..and in this case you get rubber that is round... kinda sticky.... and doesn't peel apart... Good Luck with whichever you choose!! :)

a good rule of thumb is the popularity of the item,no matter what it is,if the product is good and worth the money, people will run it.another way to look at it is the bike cost how much? and to risk your safety and investment on tires that cost how much? just my 2cents,not my ride.play safe.

On after thought:

I didnt know they were the only ppl in the states that made the colored tires, so I guess I have heard of them even if I didnt know their name. Its a very cool idea, but I dont think Id risk my ass on them until they have been rode on for more than 2-3 years.

thanks for all the input i think i'm leaning toward tubing it but the damage to the side wall makes me second guess every time i start to order a tube last thing i want is to accelerate hard or burn out and rip the side wall

I know this isnt much help, but I remember seeing a thread on here not too long ago about fixing tires. They called it "volcanizing" i believe and it supposedly fixes your tire almost to perfect condition. Try searching for it on here, it may help you out. LeFox may have talked about it, but i'm not positive. Good luck!

3/4 of the way down the thread....Vulcanizing a tire (http://www.buellxb.com/Buell-XB-Forum/Buell-Firebolt-XB12-XB9/Stroke-of-bad-luck....)

http://www.retread.org/TireRepair/index.cfm/Article/17.htm THIS site has some interesting info. on vulcanizing the study was done on semi not bikes but the side wall on a semi would have to have way more stress and pressure than any thing we could do on a 500 lbs. bike you would think [smirk]

way to much of a defensive post, sounds like you've already made up your mind, buy the recaps, break em' in,and tell us how it goes,I'm sure we would all like to hear how they performed.

i forgot that i had posted this. i chinckened out on the recaps couldn't find enough info. on them other than what tomahawk had on there site. no one would patch tire and to buy the supplies on my own would have cost about a hundred bucks [confused] no small quanties of the good stuff available only commercial sizes. so to end it i got a conti road attack. they have good reveiws and shade tree power sports sales them for $124.99 now i just have to wait for spring to see if reveiws were right (live in n. ohio)
