Perforated tubing. Anybody know where??

I have been looking around, and you'd think I'd be able to find it....but NO! I am reworking the inside of my stock exhaust and I'm looking for 2 1/2" perforated round tubing to do the inside. Any body know where to get it?? I'm temped to buy a cheapy glass pack and steal the insides...I can get one for like $20.

Another option is to grab any stock muffler(off a car, etc) and use a piece from it. I'm doing that with the stock muffler off my dodge ram. FREE!

I talked to my pops and he is bringing home a perforated sheet of stainless, I suppose I can use some 309L maybe 308L rod to weld to the mild steel. I want to make one of the ends removable for repacking...or not? Anybody know of durable materials/methods to pack?

i think rock wool is the longest lasting but im not positive on that.

Mild to ss, use 309.

Thank you! I've seen all kinds of stuff inside of mufflers...rock wool, ceramic, steel wool, steel mesh, stranded fiber glass batting, fiberglass wrap, etc. I need to do some research I guess...I'm not a drafting wiz on the computer or anything. I just spend a lot of time thinking about it and basically construct it in my head, then go build it...LOL

Personally, I wouldn't use any packing, that way it's maintenance free. Yes will be louder but I guess it just depends what you're going after. The stock muffler shell has a lot of volume, it should still reduce the volume greatly even without packing.

Can't imagine it being that hard to track down? I went to a local custom car exhaust shop and bought some off-cuts.

I actually ended up cuttin apart a factory pipe off a Honda CBR...and found some inside!...FOR FREEEEEEE! :D but that 309 rod is some expensive stuff!

$14/lb isn't too high. Ti rod is a wee bit more.

oh damn I got robbed!!! Freaking guys charged me an arm and a leg for one rod!!

Any local welding supply shop will have it in stock. Ceekay is local for me, that's the average price for 1/16th 308 or 309 ss. I usually buy 5-10 lbs at a time though. I think the larger size rod might be a little cheaper, 3/32" might be about $13 or so per pound.

Btw, you should look for some perf tubing with 23% opening, I think it's just 1/8" holes. The ones with bigger holes make it a lot easier for the packing to blow out. That's part of the reason jardine pipes need repacking so much.
