Hello I'm Akis from Greece and I'm a proud owner of a Buell lightning xb12stt.

I would be grateful if I could have your opinion on an engine problem that occurred to me. About 2 months ago I bought an ECM spy cable from the web, I ve connected it and appeared to work fine, I also did a TPS reset and adjust. Afterwards I took the bike for a ride. A couple of miles after (2~3) I stoped for gas. When I started the bike the engine had a big lag round 3000rpm just like there was no spark in one of the sparkplugs. I’ve put the ecm spy back on and there where no errors shown, so I’ve changed the spark plugs, the fuel (in case it gone bad from moisture or something) but still the same problem the bike works fine till 3000 rpms afterwards a big lag and also explosions coming from unburned mixture… Any suggestions ???

Thank you very much !

just out of curiousity sir....before your ride did you wash and hose down your new bike? hose down the sidestand swtich and handlebar switch gear? i'm thinking that perhaps you saturated these areas, now have some corrosion, and intermittent spark. your post appears to say that you only ran ecm-spy diagnostics and tps reset so none of that should have had ill-effects on your bike. i'd start by looking at these switches and connectors i've mentioned and see if all is ok.

I had similiar problems with my 9SX which all started with a bad plug wire connection i.e. corrosion inside plug end connector. Which lead me to find that same wire was shorting on the side of the frame due to a rub. Bummer. Took a lot of ride time away before I located it.:(
