I'm rebuilding the motor from the bottom of the jugs up. What type of gasket sealant is good to use.

Thanks

Are you talking about those liquid gasket sealants? Why not just use regular gaskets? That should do it, no?
I recently rebuilt the engine of my 1961 HD/Aermacchi and used liquid gasket ( brown paste that dries to concrete type of stuff) because I wanted to make sure it doesn't leak.
I would not do it again. It's messy and a bitch to clean up. And it didn't seal 100%.

Sorry couldn't really help.

I use loctite 518. It's a anirobic sealer

I didn't know if I had to put a bead of silicone around the paper gaskets.

No you don't. I just rebuilt my XB and did use any silicone on the paper gaskets and not one leak 3000 miles later.

You did or did not use sealant? Getting ready to replace a few of mine.

saftie: that stuff that you used was permatex 3000 aviation gasket sealer. i would never ever use it again on any car or cycle sealing surface. it was originally developed by permatex to seal cylinders to blocks of plane motors. it's nasty.

buellski: the factory used three-bond case sealant when originally assembling the 2 case halves as no gasket in that area. but other than that it is all gaskets and no sealers. yes there is multiple uses of thread sealers when the factory assembles these motors but i never use any type of sealant in conjunction with a gasket. others chime in if they do as i'd be curious where you're using it.

Sorry it was late. I did not use sealant. I need to proofread my posts more. Just used the gaskets. The only sealant that I used was for the case halves but you aren't going down that far.

Yamahbond. I am a bike tech and this is my sealer of choice. It's smoother when applying than Hondabond.

So the only form of sealant I would need is on the case. And not on gaskets. Correct?

Yes correct. Anything that has a gasket use only the gasket. If you split the cases get some Yamabond and use that to seal the case halves back together. If you are just going to the jugs you should be good with just the gaskets.
