So I'm shopping for an xb, and I see this ad:
2007 Buell XB9SX
13K Miles
Drummer Pipe
New Rear Tire
New Spark Plugs
Wiseco Fuel Controller
Good Brakes
Customized
Why would a Wiseco Fuel Controller be needed? What benefits might this have, and would it mesh well with the factory ecm?

While fuell Controllers are the Item to add the extra burst of Fuell nowdays. So as not to have to individually tune the ECM for the extra horsepower, they often cause problems after a few years on the Machine. They are ok in my opinion though use it till it breaks and toss it.! the Buells work better when individually Tuned. That really gose for any machine when mods are done! NOW, If that is not to be your cup of tea then ERIK BUELL Racing .com will have an ECM to pop right on the bike Tuned for your ride. Make sure to let them know Exactly the Modifications done to the bike like you just listed here.
If you want to learn how to tune the Buell then you will be in for a treat AS LONG as you learn the correct way.
There are ways here on the Forum to look up the [Tuniversity] so you can Learn how to use the ECMSPY Software with your computer. You will need a Cable to link your bike. Xoptiinside.com will have the products needed plus the Drivers are usually on his site.
NOW the 2008 through 2010 Buells use a different ECMSPY software to tune the bike.NEVER MIX the Versions use the one for the year of bike you have, and you will be pleased.
You will need to STUDY up on the Buells so as not to make the Mistake of not knowing certain pieces of knowledge that will keep you up and riding. THE ECMSPY Software also has a great diagnoustics program for keeping you out of the shop if you so desire. So Look up areas here on the Forum starting with some Videos like/ Daves DIY videos all in one thread.
Just make sure to do the necessary homework so you get the best out of your ride. AmsOil works best in these Bikes and just snug the oil and Tranny drain plugs so as not to strip them out. Good Luck on your Choices.*Jimi

Thanks Jimi. I've been doing some reading in anticipation of my purchase, I just hadn't come across a fuel controller add-on yet, and was curious why someone would spend money on that, unless it was a bandaid to fix a runability issue.

A lot of the Bikes nowday have a sliight studder with the perprogrammed ECMs. power Commanders and many other bikes have many Versions for the small burst from stock Running. Tuning to me is the way to go . it is however somewhat difficult for some to do correctly. The Old days of jetting is mostly gone. while i still do the jetting for the older bikes to get then right takes some time depending on the Changes made. They are more forgiving than Fuell injection systems. Read up and there is much to learn depending on what is needed for the rider and the Bike they choose. take your time. Welcome to the Forum. *Jimi

My bike came with a fuel controller and it runs fine. It's a quick way to make simple adjustments on the fly. You can pop the seat off and use a small flat head to rotate a few screws which adjust fuel input. It's not as detailed as data logging and making cell adjustments so its more of a general adjustment.
I'm not experienced in tuning and without experience you can mess some things up if you start tinkering with your maps and you don't know what you're doing.
This is a picture of my Doubeck TFI that fits under the seat.

I bought my bike as a repo and it had a tuner on it, but there was no manual, cables, or anything else with it, so I took it off. My bike runs fine now, but I think it could run better so I am trying to get my computer connected to it so I can custom tune it.

Dear netty2424...........as said my jimmijeans.................the fuell controller does not work with the Buell.............the ECM actually fights with it!............your bike might run OK.............but its because the Buell ECM has counter regulated its effects............
ECMspy has been developed by a German guy called Gunther over years and works perfectly................thre is now a new app android phones that is called ECMdroid.............it enables you to do data looging, erro code reading and a few other basic functions...........not IPHONE compatibility by the way.............in case you need more fuel for 1430cc motor you can use the 450PSI pressure regulator. I have actually nagged the guys at EBR durich 2012 for a while and they have it in stock again (was sold out)............only makes sense when you have a large bore motor.

just a little addtion...................TFI type devices do allow to mess with the fuelling, but they give fake Lamba values to the ECM which in turn means this would not be a stable performance increase when there is a difference in air pressure/hights you ride bike.
The best way to get the fuelling adjusted for a standard XB is ECM Spy and when you need additional fuel you need to consider to shorten the injection times and increase the injection pressure (not needed for the stanrad XB) means............same fuell volume in less time and then you have some possibilities to add fuell for top end performance in a large bore motor.......the lenght of the injtion impulses is just one of the problems that need to be balanced with head porting, cams, exhaust system............
