I am finally back on this forum with a buell. Last one was a m2 cyclone that didnt stay with me very long. I just picked up a 07 buell xb12ss long. 735 original miles but that is only because it was laid down a few years ago and stood around unfinished. I picked it up and I am hoping with so forum help I can get the bike back on the road. So heres the issue with the bike.
-laid down on left side- broken shifter, passenger foot peg, small dent in tank(saved by a puck), exhaust actuator cable broken and harness ripped out, gas tank relief hose ripped, minor damage to tail and ecm harness broken.
-previous owner started doing a firebolt tail swap but was never completed.
-the bike currently starts but has a rough idle and doesnt rev well at all.

and some pics to prove its real

I will be trying to diagnose the problem tonight and have read about checking the plugs, injectors, fuel pump but this bike only has 735 miles. I will try the process to clear the engine(a combo of turn key, run switch, full throttle). the previous owner replaced the ecm and iat sensor to try to get it running and it worked but its not running right. I will be doing the tps reset as soon as i can get my ecmspy. Could it also be the exhaust valve actuator?

heres how the guy had his, are the wires in the correct spots?

Can you post more pictures of the damaged wiring?

The exhaust valve screw that thing, get ECM spy, disable it, get a pipe for it or rig the valve open.

Has the old fuel been drained, tank filled, drained again to wash any potential crap out of it? ("Crap" i love this word)

Www.americansportbike.com will have a lot of what you need.

I have a black firebolt tail fairing with the back point scraped from going noon and some minor scratches. PM if interested

Thanks for the quick reply!!
-The wiring wasnt damaged, just all unplugged during his swap. The ecm had the harness ripped out so he put a new ecm on.
-Good to know that i can just get rid of it. does that mean I can get rid of the mangled cable for the exhaust valve? or is it worth it to pull it completely open and clamp it in the open position?
-The previous owner said that he put new fuel in last year when he replaced the ecm and iat sensor but I will be doing it again just for safe measure.
-Thanks for your offer but the guy had the plastics for the swap also.

I have the stock shift lever, rear brake lever and a pair of stock footpegs (no springs). PM me if you're interested.

The actuator, the cable get rid of it once youve disabled it with ecm spy. Then the valve on the muffler until you get a system secure it open.

The gas, IMPO doesnt hold well for more than a few months, specially in injectors. Better safe than sorry and get some fresh fuel in it.

First get all your wiring situated so you know thats not a factor.

Is somebody able to post up a shot of their exhaust actuator plug with the wires exposed?

i have the tail. i would be interested in getting a full wiring harness, looks like mine has been spliced with. So i checked the plugs today and they were completely black. The other issue now is that the bike no longer starts. It started at the previous owners house but not anymore. I watched some videos online and i always hear a buzzing type sound just before the bike is started up but mine doesnt have that. Could it be that my fuel pump is out? Is there a relay for it?

You check the plugs? Always the first thing to check on a Buell that has been sitting. If possible could you post a video of the bike and the attempted starts. Videos will help us help you.

So here is just a small update. After alot of research and testing on the bike, I found a bad ground. Before finding the bad ground my dashboard light didnt work, high beam would be on when light switch was on low beam, cluster would sweep only when turning off ignition switch and kill switch, check engine light wouldnt function and fuel pump wouldnt prime at all.

Now it seems like all of those issues have been corrected and the fuel pump is priming correctly.I drained the old fuel last night and today I will put in new NGK Iridium plugs with new fuel and take a video of my attempt to start it.

I don't recommend iridium plugs.. Many on here (including buell parts guy?) agree... These bikes seem to like conventional plugs.

I run NGK DCPR9EIX in my bike and have no problems, they will be fine. I think the majority on this site have good luck with them compared to the people that have problems with them.

^yup I run iridium plugs and it runs great!

Yeah I'm not a big fan of the iridium. My bike ran like crap! But I ordered those just in non iridium. I haven't installed them yet. I'm hoping they run better. But hopefully you won't have any problems cause those plugs aren't too cheap!

So i finally got the bike running good. All it needed after finding the bad ground was to do a tps reset. Since the ecm came off of another bike, it was calibrated for this one. All thats left is to fix the minor scrapes, paint and put it back together.
