Hi all! I'm a noob to anything V-twin... but I have two specific Buell questions. If I get a regular XB-12S, does it take a new upper frame to make it a Long? A new swingarm maybe?

Is the EBR computer interchangable between the XB-9s and 12s by adding a different fuel map?

Thanks!!

You can with a swingarm and some modifications, but a "Ss" has a different frame and swingarm.
And No, the xb9 and xb12 ecms are not interchangeable.

Thanks Squidbuellie for the help! But I forgot to ask, can you put a S seat on an Ss? My local Harley dealer ain't got a clue....

Not without changing the whole sub frame.

If you're looking to change both the seat and the swing, you might as well buy the SS and save yourself the trouble?! Many people have swapped just the swing.

What's your ultimate goal?

I agree totally. Â*I began shopping for an XB years ago but I was only interested in an SS, which are a relatively rarer model to find used. My search was so long that I considered just doing a conversion but when I did some research (some of it on this great forum) I realized it's a Pandora's box of issues. Â*It's definitely possible (helmets off to any one who's done it successfully) but I know my own limits on patience & abilities too well to try it myself!

The long story is I'm 6'2" and I have an Ss right now but I have to sell it because of the fuggin taxman[mad]. I will definetly buy another Lightning when times get better[up], but I don't know if i'll fit on a regular XB-12S and I'm afraid I won't find another Long when I'm ready! They seem really hard to find now, and I don't think that it's gonna get better[sad]

When I sat on the Ss at the dealer, the planets aligned and the heavens opened. Quickest purchasing decision I have ever made.

Sh!tty man, I feel for you!

Yup, I know what you mean. I can't afford to buy bikes new, so I was scouring FSBO ads for years finding a nice used SS. When I found it, the deal was done on the spot!

The simple truth is that if Buell never made the SS, I would never have owned an XB. The smaller tank, shorter wheelbase, and tighter cockpit of the regular XBs were show-stoppers for me...

netty2424 is actually 5'6 1/2... :)

I am 6'1 and ride a R with CG suspension and Lightning pegs and have no probs with it.

Ha, funny! I have a Lightning with Firebolt pegs!

I am only 6'0" so it's not like I feel particularly cramped on the regular XB, but I do some touring and it's nice to have the extra saddle of the Ss to reposition yourself on after 6, 8, or 10 hours of riding, especially when you've got a bag strapped on the rear seat too!
