Greetings Fellows,

For the last few months my bike (2008 XB9SX) hesitates to start. When I press the starter button I hear some repeated clicks, the sound of few revs and the engine won't start or it will start after many attempts. I thought that the battery is the problem, so I bought and installed a new one; however the same problems still occur.

Does any of you met this situation? What can I do to fix it?

Thank you in advance for any suggestion and help.

Sounds like the starter motor's toast

Thank you mp578.

How expensive a starter motor may be?

What kind of battery. What kind of parts store did you buy it? Does the clock reset often?
I wouldn't rule out that battery. Have you tried a slow trickle charge just to see if it'd start normal?

mp587 - Thank you for that information; I'll check my starter motor and if broken, then will buy the one in EBay.

Lesley in regard - thank you for reply. I've bought a battery that's as per he owner's manual specs. The clock doesn't reset. I have charged the new battery and it shows 13.6 V when the engine doesn't run and when it runs (started with jump cables) it shows 14.5 V. So I guess that the battery is good, the charging system is good, but I have a surge of current somewhere. It could be indeed the starter motor, or perhaps that the solenoid or.....I just don't know.

Try cleaning and tightening all electrical contacts and grounds.
