I was out riding and after i launched the bike something went wrong in there sounds like something is lose and when you rev it sounds like maybe the chain is hitting stuff... Anyone know whats wrong?

Hard to tell with that description.
What year is the bike? Mileage?
If you're pretty sure its in the primary you could take the little window off and see how much slop is in the chain. It is the smaller black window on the primary cover. Take it off and push the chain up and down. I don't remember the exact spec, but it shouldn't have much more then a half inch total deflection.
Otherwise pull the primary cover off and see whats going on in there.

Its a 2004 xb12r with about 8600 miles on it so not really that high at all and it happened all at once two maybe the tensioner broke? i did not really want to pull the whole cover but if i have to o well...

Update i just checked the chain it was really tight when i first checked it but i loosened it to speck but it is still making the knocking noise.. i listened closer and i want to say its coming from the front half and not the back clutch half..

I have something similar going on as well. I am thinking it could possibly be the primary nut. I know there was an updated torque spec for that. I am going to check mine once it gets a little warmer. I have an 2005 XB12scg and I think the updated torque specification was changed in 06.

if its an evil knock, could very well be the primary shaft nut needing to be retourqued (to the new spec) as oxygen says.

Yeah i took apart the primery ealier, (really nice outside about 79-82) and every thing seemed fine, did not really check the nut... but after work i am going to chang the plugs because i have know that to cause knocking too....

Good to hear! I will definitely be checking mine coming up. Is it possible to unbolt the cover without dealing with disconnecting the clutch cable and all that? Also, kole DeWoody how what did you use to lock the primary so you could tighten the bolt? I have the manual, I just like hearing tricks and tips from people that have done it and you literally just did it so I figured I would ask.

i did not really unhook the cover all the way. i just unhooked the cable from the actual cluth on the inside of the case but left it in on the ouside where it goes in. also ideally buell has a tool to lock it up it in the service catalog in section 6. But what i did was with a friends help was to put it in 5th gear and have a friend put the back break on really hard... not the best way but i will order the tool and re do it later..

the new torque spec is super high and calls for loctite too, i believe. definitely makes sense to get back in there and torque it right, it's just going to come loose again on you.
good to hear that was the issue though, freeked me out when mine came loose. simple fix though.

Did you have to take the shifter and linkage off? what is the actual torque spec again? Isn't it around 300lbs? I'd hate to have to take it into the dealer to get that done, but I don't have a torque wrench that goes that high.

yeah you have to take it of also take the left peg of to make it easy and i called buell and they told me it was about 220lbs..
