im looking for a pair of cyl heads for an XB, Im using all XB top end stuff on a EVO sportster project im building as a cafe racer, also using the XB cams (some work involved but it works) should be a fast little sportster.
the sportster guys run the prices up on these heads on feebay, the rest of the XB parts are relatively cheap,.
i might bid on the heads if they dont go crazy, but if someone has cyl heads let me know. thanx

okay, theres still over an hour to go, and the just went over $400 so im out for bidding. not long ago there was another set of heads on feebay and they went over $670 which is insane, (for just cyl heads) the sportster guys are pushing the prices up as the XB heads are a deal compared to SE or other aftermarket heads.
conversely, a complete but lightly damaged COMPLETE XB12 motor (minus primary cover) recently sold on feebay for $512, the front head cyl mount was damaged and it was out of a Uly, just fine for a tube frame or Sportster guy
and you end up with trans parts, primary, charging system and a lot of other parts in the process.
people on ebay are just crazy,. Im into mostly vintage bikes,, I bid on and lost a alloy cyl and cyl head for a 1940s BSA 500cc single (way before you blast guys) I have several of these bikes, and wanted it for one of my basket cases, so when i got home sunday and checked the bidding went crazy, $1750 was the final amount for just the head and cyl, but 2 weeks earlier there was a guy in Texas with a complete 1948 motor in a frame with wheels and forks (wrong forks and missing a lot of other stuff) but it only went for $987,
I have 7 of these BSA Goldstars, 2 1940s ZB models, a 54CB 2 55CB and a 56 DB and a 57 DB, its gotten
really hard to buy arts for them,

When people get into auctions they stop thinking. I was at a company type auction once where people were bidding over $1k for 4 year old computers when you could buy new ones for $750. Just plain stupid. They just want to "win".
My brother built his sportster 883 to a 1250 nrhs kit and some other goodies. It sounds similar to what you're doing. If you have any interest in what he did and his dyno results let me know and I'll ask him for specifics. One thing I know is that his sporty is faster than my xb9r with intake and race maps.

Yes you are right on bidding at auctions, I used to sell a lot of stuff from my old shop on feebay and I would count on that. However sometimes a deal slips thru and I guess we are all hoping we are the lucky one who spotted it, I dont try and peddle much stuff on feebay anymore,
I guess the lottery works on the same principle, sadly it appears i didnt win the lotto this week,
I have a couple sportsters besides my Buells, and last year a guy emailed me and was getting out of them, he had been buying up anything sporty he could and then lost interest. So i ended up with a big pile of them, sold off the iron head stuff and almost came out even, So im refurbing my 1986 XL rat bike daily rider and selling that this summer, upgrading the 1998 that came in the pile as my keeper, I gave my wife the 2000 883, down the road we may hop up that but for right now just a king tank, seat, CV perf kit on the carb, heavy breather and a stainless 2>1 exhaust. Im keeping another 1995 as a backup for parts for hers and mine and the other one im building as a cafe racer,
stripped down and mean, Ill ride it for a while and then sell it in a year or 2 as some of my other project bikes come on line to fund the next project. I dont do this for a living anymore but it helps to fund my very expensive toy collection. (I also have a hybrid Norton-Buell project as well,,,,,some cool hot rod parts)
ive been researching this and its not that hard, XB top end stuff, and the cams for a stock XB are pretty hot as is, similar to the 556 SE performance cams, you have to retime the motor and switch pinion and oil pump gears but other than that pretty straight fwd,
I would be very interested in his experience, as well as what he did for ignition and carb, Ill ping you off list with my home email and phone.
I would like to say,,,,,,,, buying parts out of a catalog its very expensive to build these customs, but careful shopping, ebay sniping and swap meets plus good buddy deals and its pretty affordable,
I was at a swap meet and vintage bike show yesterday for the Oregon Vintage MC, and picked up some great deals, for example i got a Vance and Hines 2 into 1 exhaust for $40 and they retail for a bazillion dollars.
I just love deals like that. I dont mind a little wear and tear for those kinda deals,.
I got a Borrani alloy rim for one of My BSA projects for $20 and they sell for 200-400 on feebay. i bought 8 items yesterday and pleased as punch,
