Ok , this may be a silly question , but I have to know .Is it possible , or should I say is it applicable to put a 12 motor in a 9 frame (same year)?

I am a noob, but I am under the impression that they are basically the same block with just different bores... Is that true?

A friend of mine has done this... with a 2004 xb9 bike...using a 2006 Xb12 race prepped motor from a somewhat local race team. No problems.

Bores are the same, stroke is longer on the 12.

Bores are the same, stroke is longer on the 12.
So by that I would assume then the "block" varies slightly in overall dimension (Mostly Height). Thanks for the corrected Info!

The difference in stroke between the 9 and 12 is .687" (3.125 for the 9, and 3.812 for the 12). What this means is the crank pin is .3435" further from the centerline of the fly wheel. I have not measured, but do not believe the engine cases (block)to be any different in height.
Anybody is free to correct me if I am wrong!!
