Well, I noticed over the last couple weeks that the Buell seemed REALLY, REALLY HOT! I had convinced myself that I just didn't notice the heat that much last year because the bike was new and I was numbed by the joy of having the bike. This week I started to get occasional backfires and yesterday there was a definite performance loss which prompted me to pull it into the basement and have a look at it today. Within minutes of having it on the paddock stands I realized that both of the header mounting nuts on the rest cylinder were mia. Well that explains the extreme heat and poor running... so a trip to home depot for replacement nuts was in order. I rotated the motor doing as little as possible to accomplish the task, skipped most steps in the service manual. I got the new nuts on and with some help from the household master motorcycle tech(my youngest) got the bike put back together and running like a champ again. I guess because the exhaust leak gradually got worse I didn't notice it getting louder, but I certainly noticed how quiet it was after it was fixed... I'm going to need to fix that soon.
