Thinking about purchasing a Buell 1125 CR to go along with my Lightning Long... Overall is this engine, electricals, etc. overall pretty tight and reliable or are there bugs that never got ironied out as bike was only in production for 2 years????

Comments would be greatly appreciated.

Lastly - the bike I am looking at is an 09 (red) with 6,000 miles on it. Asking price is $5,500 (seems very reasonable)... TKS[smirk]

Besides a shot battery I have had little to no issues with mine. I have never been left of the side of the road from a bike failure.

Now saying that, I did have one before and quickly got rid of it cause the tranny was going out and it only had 11k.

My CR now has over 16k. I also just got done adjusting the valves recently.

EDIT: I just read the mile on the one you are looking at. From reading over the years it seems like the problems will appear between 6-12k miles. Just a fair warning. All problems are pretty easy to fix though!

The only issues I have had with my 09 CR is the stator. Put in the EBR rotor and a new VR and its golden.

In short, know your issues and fix them and the bike is bullet proof IMO.

I honestly wouldn't ride anything else.

Yup I've had no problems with both of mine besides my stator but wasn't that hard of a fix just took a couple weeks. Very fun bike to tinker with. I wouldn't want any other bike.

My cr is definitely finicky, its had some issues, and I absolutely love it. Second only to my vrod, but that's apple's to oranges....they are two different beasts. The cr is the bomb!

Hey - thank you all for the feedback --- it is clear that each of you love your bike and that the charging issue is the only consistent issue but easily remedied.

Thanks... I love the reviews I have seen on this bike and it looks like a total blast to ride!!!

I will be checking out the bike this Saturday for a test ride.[cool]

Once you ride one It's over dude, the cr will steal your heart and instantly bring about a bad case of the immaturity's! In the great words of Ricky Bobby, it just wants to go fast!

I agree with the immaturity statement, I've never been a very aggressive rider and on day two after buying the CR I was practicing pulling the front wheel up. I've had mine for two months, done about 1000 miles and I love it, funnest bike I've ever owned. I think as long as you go into the purchase with the realization you will probably have to deal with the stator down the line you'll be fine.

I AGREE WITH THE ABOVE...

The stator will likely have issues but EBR has a rotor that will cure that issue. You will want to rewind or replace the stator and put the new rotor in at the same time.

You will also likely need to fix the weeping clutch and the weeping water pump at some point.

Servicing the valves/plugs is a big job every 12k miles so if your not mechanical you will need to plan for the expense of that service.

The bike is pretty easy to work on and a riot to ride. For the $$ you wont get a better value!
