My gaurdian angel worked over time yesterday.200k from home coming back from a charity ride lost the front on a entrance ramp, slamed a curb was headed for four lanes of traffic, hisided and ended on the ground inches from cars going 70 to 80 mph, bike flew across the road clipped by one car while it was in the air and crashed into the centre barrier.i am still trying to sort out what happened, was not going fast, looking over my shoulder checking traffic when I felt the front go.Lady behind me told the police I wasn,t speeding and the bike sudenly just seemed to go straight.Me, all I got was a pulled finger, some rash on my back and butt, sore ribs and the usual bumps and bruises.

Sorry Bright didn't get any pic,s,don,t know if I can get any and not sure if I want any. Thanks Buddha but I think after 46 years my riding time is over,Not because I don,t want to, but because I can't afford to.With what they will give me for the bike won't go far and insurance will be out of sight.Maybe if I win a lottery, but I think I used all my luck yesterday. If yous guys get that Ontario ride planned I will be sure to show up to say hi. Bueller at heart no matter what !

Well it's offical no more Buell. We went down fighting though. Was thinking about buying it back and building a Buell BOTT XR1, had some people ready to help with things and was waiting to hear form Bottpower on the price of the kit.But the insurance co. just told the bike has been "BRANDED" and can not be sold to anybody not even for salvage.DMV gets notified and that serial no. can never be plated. With what my insurance will cost I might have to get a Honda 125 Repsol replica and put a BuellXb sticker on it. Everone ride safe wish I was with you Bruce

I dont know where you live but in my opinion your DMV is full of ****. Bikes get sold all the time, sounds like some sort of activist DMV employee on a power trip. If that were actually true, the auto salvage (MC in this case as well) auction companys, and parts brokers would be long gone if that was the case.
Glad you are ok, but you got a serious line of BS from that source where ever you heard it.
Its POSSIBLE your state or location is far more strict and difficult, but WTF?
Dont let them keep it, buy it back, even if YOU part it out, thats better than letting them do it. Do it so other Buells may live another day

hey Internet I know your intensions are good,It was not DMV that said that. What happend is the insurance co. deems the bike unrepairable and then it is "BRANDED"and can not be sold to anyone,me for salvage anyone.Believe me I tried to buy it back, but the insurace co. will not budge on this, there was a lot of good stuff undamaged. They were more than fair with what they gave me for the bike.I know it sounds like BS and it sucks big time. Some bikes do get sold as salvage and some go straight to the scrap yard.Unfortunatly mine came under the latter.I appreciate your concern, so please lets not start a pissing match about this. Thanks again everone Raven

okay, sorry if i came across rude, I was just clobbered by a drunk myself so slightly medicated anyway :D
And again, i dont know what state you are in, or what insurance company. So again, I could be wrong here,
I was once you know, my wife told me all about it.
But again, that story you were told is BS. I just bought another forum members buell who was totalled, and paid off by the insurance company, He also wanted the bike back, I wont name him here as i dont know if he wants it discussed but he brought me the bike, and a replacement frame and parts, It WILL live again and should, its a rare model (XB1200 SCG) and he was told they only sold 20 of them in California and 12 of them have been wrecked. This one the frame broke in the crash,,,leaked fuel out.
I have a number of friends who go every week to the insurance auction yards, and bid on vehicles, some specialize in bikes. Yours WILL end up there i can assure you. where it goes next is up to the buyer, might launder the title and it might end up on the road again, or will be parted out, Its a very well oiled industry.
I also have a sportster basket case here,, recently bought a branded frame and title, the necks bent, so it DOES have a title although its pink and states "Salvage title, totaled" My DMv already told me they will give me a new title, Since im building it into a chopper anyway,, its fine,. People do this all the time. I dont do bikes for a living anymore but have been building bikes and cars for 35 years. I ran my own shop as well as managed other shops too, I dont know what else to tell you,.
I AM glad you are alive and well,, and sounds like they took care of you. and thats all that really matters, I just wanted to send out the message for anyone on here reading this is to try and save these bikes and not let the insurance companys keep them, Part them out to other enthusiasts or let someone else rebuild them to live and ride another day. I specialize in rare vintage bikes,,,, super rare bikes, But i can tell you the writing on the wall for these Buells is VERY CLEAR, these bikes are very collectable and will only go up in value, Tubers are already headed to instant collectible fame, the XBs are right behind them,
save them,, buy 5 of them and store carefully, will do better than any 401k, Do you know old corvettes do on average 12% per year in appreciation? I wish my stocks and 401k did that well, bikes and cars are way more fun as well.

Hey Internet,
Good point WRT the value our bikes will have.
In Raven's case he is in Ontario, Canada and the insurance companies and MTO (Ministry of Transportation) do things a little differently than where you live. A bike or car that is branded salvage can never be registered again. Due to the scam a few years back where cars that had been scrapped in Quebec were being trucked in to Ontario and fixed up and sold with a "clean" title, and vice-a-versa, the MTO and Insurance companies decided that a salvage title means it gets compacted and recycled. Even if you wanted to buy it for parts the insurance adjusters have deals with the salvage yards, so good luck getting your bike back for parts.

OH!!!!!!!!! Well thats different then, I stand corrected, so sorry for the mistake,. regardless,,,, glad he is okay, but for the guys in the states,. do what you can to keep these bikes intact. everyone off the road and in the hands of a parts place is one fewer, and you get guys like i dealt with on feebay trying to peddle the parts for more money for a used part than you can purchase them new in the box from the dealerships (headlight in my case)[sad]

No big deal Internet, no reason you should know. I agree about keeping them on the road, they are pretty unique bikes and living examples of the radical (at the time) new technology and design which has really changed bikes from what they were when I was young to what they are today.
It is always a surprise for me how much attention my Firebolt gets. I stopped at a popular scenic look out during a ride the other day. There were lots of nice bikes, Harleys, lots of BMWs, some Honda and Yamaha sport bikes even 2 Ducatis, but mine got all the attention and compliments. They are an iconic motorcycle and greatly under-appreciated.
