Ok I finally got my new fork in for my SS from the HD shop. I bought the whole fork assembly and they told me that it needs the oil to be added it? I've called around and pretty much everyone is telling me that I have to pretty much tear it apart to add the oil? BUT the guys at the HD shop told me that all in need to do is take off the cap on the top and pour it in?! That seems WAY to easy.... I could be wrong and I hope I am! I have a step my step from Negative on the forum but he is also telling me to pretty much take it apart when the HD shop saying it pointless to buy a new whole assembly just to take it apart? That is my dilemma? Is it correct what the HD shop is telling me or do I need to take it apart to fill? Taking it apart is outside of my knowledge and ability cause I really don't have thoes kinda tools.... Hey I'm a new rider/Bueller don't judge me just help lol!

Wish I could help but I dont know, tell you what I will try to remember to look in my service book when I get home maybe the answer is there.

To put the proper amount you would need to tear it apart. I however have a hard time believing they would have an fork assembly and not have oil in it.

You could possibly take the cap off insert oil pump the dampening rod and measure level. I don't think you will have to completely disassemble but it will be a little more than just pouring fluid in and go.

It is hard to believe that a brand new fork assembly doesn't come with oil. Anyway if that's the case that the hd shop deal with it no charge of course.

Ok after calling and bugging the HD shop all day about this fork! Finally I got an answer I can live with..... Drum roll........ The dam thing is ready to go with oil already in it! When I picked it up I thought heard a gurgleing sound like oil was in it if I flipped it upside down? That's when the calls started and when I got the right answer!! Thanks anyways for your input ill be putting it together this weekend!

naibaf: prior to your H-D call, if you had placed the bottom of the assembly on the floor over top of soft towel.....bottom being the leg that holds the axle.....and pushed down on top of the assembly and it was slow to return to full extension, it was shipped with oil installed.
