ok, got my firebolt a few months ago from a dealer, and I called them recently about the title and they said that I had to go through the DMV to get it. I went to the DMV website and it says there that the dealer gives it over when the lein is payed.

what am I missing here? The lein in payed, how to I get my title?

The dealer should of given it to you. Sounds like a shady dealer to me

I see this all the time[sad]
The shady dealer usually doesn't own the bike so the dealer has to give the $ that you paid to them to the lien holder in order to get the title, then give the title to you.
No problem right? Unless the shady dealer has been "robbing Peter to pay Paul".
You're Peter, and maybe the electric bill is Paul. You have to stay on them, even go to court. The shady dealer is the ONLY way you get that title, whoever the lien holder is still technically owns your bike.
Remember the "squeaky wheel gets the grease"!

Or just punch them in the dick.

Wow, 2 old skool analogies in one post. I feel like I'm my own grampa:)

ok, the frist thing I would do is get a laywer quick. If someone else has a lein on the bike and has not paid,my understanding is the bike could be leagaly be siezed and you are out your money. The only way you get the bike back is if you pay off what they owe.

Call the dealer. Ask them who the lein holder is (aka which bank has the title and loan). Or check your loan paperwork to see who the bank is. The bank who holds the loan on the bike will have the title. Since you paid off the loan I would call the bank and make sure they have the correct address on file to mail the title to you. From my experience it takes about one to two weeks to get the title once I pay the loan off. In Ohio if there is still a lien you can get a memorandum title. This allows you to get license plates while the bank retains the actual title. It cannot be used to sell the vehicle but establishes your ownership allowing you to get license plates.

I would also refrain from crotch punching unless in a dark alley with no witnesses. But let us know how you make out with that! LMAO :D

Banks hold the title, not the dealer. Unless the dealer does on the spot financing (most do not) it will be coming from a financial institution. I payed the wifes car off and it took almost 2 months to get the title. Banks just arent that quick with stuff like that.

I am actually in the financial industry, while it is true that the lien holder does hold the title it they release it back to the owner on the title, so the dealer would get it back to transfer ownership to the new owner before it gets to the new owner. Sometimes the process does take longer to get the title depending on how the lien is paid. There is usually a waiting period to make sure the payoff check doesn't bounce before it gets sent for the signatures of release of lien. The time tables really depend on the lien holder's process.

OP said its been a few months, no release of lien should take that long.

ok..so i finally get an acceptable answer after 3 calls. It looks like they never cleared the lein after I payed it. The girl has done that today, they were very apologetic about this, cause they know I called about a month ago and the guy (whom I had to call 4 times) I talked to didnt even really look at the records and said just call the DMV.

Soooo I should have the title by next week or so. We shall see.

thanks for your help guys....might still have to punch a dick yet ;)

do it any way just for the inconvenance they caused you. there are now dealership around here that usall give me what i want because when i was younger and didnt know any better, i would call my mom and she would come down and tell them what they are going to due based on the warranty they sold me. after that if i had an issue i would pull out my phone, which they would reply "ok ok will get the work done. just dont call your mom."
