Hello, I am looking to get my oil changed (2005 xb12s) and was wondering about using Drag specialties 20w50 Engine oil in the engine. Below is the link to the oil.

http://www.dragspecialties.com/products/?productId=124472&q=oil&docType=product&submit=Search

My father uses it in his Harley and says its great. Its a non synthetic oil and he says to use it because of harleys roller bearings. That you cant use synthetic. I personally would like to use amsoil in it as ive read great things about it on here. Is it safe to use drag specialties oil? If not then why? Thanks for help and opinions!

being a righteous man and trying to live by the Gospel every day of my life, i never ever use the Lords' name in vein....but Jesus Christ....another oil discussion! this has truly made my weekend and for that i am grateful.

your father is correct....never ever use synthetic oils in a roller bearing crank motor. it is a complete and utter waste of precious cash.

regarding Drag Specialties oil it should be noted that their proprietary oil wells and refinery are located here in Southern PA and staffed by an energetic contingent of Amishmen who truly know quality and viscosity.
hope that helps.

Then why does EVERYONE on here use mobil one and amsoil? I know not another oil thread. I just haven't heard much of drag specialties on here and thought id ask. Better safe than sorry. So what youre saying is its good stuff and I should besafe to use it?

Well, Harley sells a synthetic oil, Syn3, for the engine, transmission, and primary? Buell 1203cc has an Engine and Primary oil compartment. Is the Harley Synthetic oil any different than Amsoil, Mobil 1, Royal Purple, etc...?
How are roller bearings lubricated differently that synthetic oils cannot improve on? I am asking because I really do not know and trying to form an opinion. The PO of the Uly I ride used Mobil 1, and it seems ok to use in the engine and Primary. I feel it would not be appropriate to switch oil after 25K miles. How I feel may not be accurate, but would like to know more about why you should never use synthetic oil in a roller bearing crank motor?

gentlemen: i'm kidding. thought the Amishmen staffing the Drag Specialties refinery was a tip-off. having said that roller bearing motors ( all 2-strokes, kawi KZ models, all Suzuki GS models and many others) are gentle on oil but the generated heat in these air-cooled motor is yet another topic. bottom line is use what you can afford and any quality 20-50 motorcycle oil works fine in Buells. if riding in consistent below 50 degree weather i'd probably run a 15-40 such as shell rotella T. personally i'm partial to synthetics such as Amsoil and Castrol Act-Evo...their are a host of them available in 20-50 wt. lastly, being on my 5th Buell to date and trying a whole host of primary oils i've found that Amsoil 20-50 and Amsoil #60 work extremely well in Beull primaries. the shifting is buttery smooth and the clutch action light and predictable. there again any 20-50 wet clutch compatible lube works well in the primaries. stick around on here long enough and you'll find that oil is a religion on here.
