Are there any other buellers with boats out there? My family and I just got into it this summer. My wife and I started going out on the Missouri river with some friends on their boats mid summer and after a couple of weeks of that we decided we really liked it so we went boat shopping. Also we felt like mooches going on everyone elses boats all the time and really didn't want to impose by asking them to bring our kids as well.
So being that im not rich by any means I started looking in the 1500-3000 range and bought a 1988 Bayliner Capri 1700 with a force 85 ob for 2k.

The kids loved going to the lake with it and cruising on the river. But the floor needed replaced and of course it was pretty slow and since I didn't really want another winter project and didn't feel it was worth putting too much money into that old boat sold it and went about purchasing something in the 5k-8k range.
We we're lucky enough to find a one owner well taken care of 1998 Capri 2050 with a 5.0l and stainless prop and all the options for 6.2k. The PO took great care of it and it needs very little work. Picked it up Labor Day weekend so only got to take it out a few times before the season's end, but still lovin the boat and cant wait til next season.

Damn. That sounds nice! And a definite improvement :p haha. Well I don't have any pictures but me and my ex got into it pretty big last summer me her and then my cousin and his wife went out like once or twice a week with my wake board knee board and our awesome tubes! I have a flying one and a big one that looks like a donut with no hole in the center that one I think is the best tube iv ever had. It's a lot of fun. But as I am more of a fisher myself me and my family take it to lake of the woods and the cranberry chain of lakes in Canada. We have a 16 1/2 foot. Lund with a 150 mercury inline. She moves alright.

Awesome, B-bagger! I had an 86' 1950 bayliner cuddy with the 4cyl inboard.. miss that boat (it was super economical) so I was looking at Bayliners this summer, too!. Your 20' looks great! seems like a pretty good deal considering the condition & the 5.0 is the perfect motor for power & econ.
Also, a half, or full camper canvas is sure nice for those less than perfect or windy days.. my 86' had a half canvas and I used it quite a lot..
enjoy!

Buellybagger - Where are you from? The wife and I would take our boat out on the Missouri River too. People thought we were crazy, since it was a 1963 Glass Magic 14' Runabout (Fiberglass hull) and, as they claim, "The river is unpredictable". This coming from the guys with 22' Aluminum Bass/hunting boats who knew nothing about the river, haha. I've seen these guys run up on wing dams not knowing they were there (they had no idea what the bouys meant).

Thanks for the compliments on the boat all. My two and a half year old daughter is very proud of HER boat. thumpin glad to hear of others with good experiences with bayliners, always so much talk of how cheap they're made, but for the money they seem like great boats. Renegade i'm from Nebraska city Nebraska. We usually put in here head north and float back, occasionally we hang out on a nice little beach by Hamburg Iowa. I try to always go north in case of break down.

[up] Tyler. Nice! That looks to be a pretty new evinrude on there, bet you don't spend much time crossing your fingers at the ramp when you hit the key. That old force wasn't bad, but I still never expected it to start ;)

I bought one about two years ago. Had it in the water twice… the second time I left it in for a couple days and when I came back it was on the bottom of the lake. It's back on the trailer now, but doesn't start. :( I just haven't had enough time to mess with it.
I've also got my dad's old Sylvan pontoon. If I had know how things were going to turn out, I would not have bought the boat. (traded a Blast + $$$ for it.)

My dad has boats. None of my own yet. 1977 Mastercraft ski boat, 24 foot Spectra with a 454, a Hondo race boat for which we are building a 396, small fishing boat at the camp, an old wooden boat my grandfather built in the 60s, Hobie cat sail boat and two Sunfish sail boats.. Oh and about 15 canoes, mostly Kevlar race ones. I've grown up on the water. Been skiing my whole life. I'll eventually get my own :-)

I had a 5 year old Caprie 17" with a Force 120 in the 90s and had nothing but problems with the outboard. Decided I would never own a boat again. Until I had a friend cojnvince me to get one off Craig's list for $500 that needed a out drive which my friend had to sell me for cheap. Man am I glad I did, I have less than $2000 invested and a few weekends of work. It is so reliable I would drive it anywhere. Took it out over a dozen times this summer, wakeboarding, tubeing, fishing, and scaloping. This is my 1983 Wellcraft with the original 5.0 Mercrusier. http://i1356.photobucket.com/albums/q724/kelley386racer/IMG_20131005_184306_220_zps863b70f6.jpg

My father in law once told me, "if it floats, flys, or ****s, rent it" LOL Yup, I usually get out in a boat 3-5 times a season, but I boat in the summer like I snowmobile in the winter: I rent!
As they say, the second happiest day of your life is the day you buy a boat. The happiest day of your life is the day you sell it! :D

Walked around in one of those Chris craft at the Tampa Bay boat show. It was beautiful but too nice for me. I like to do watersports, fish, camp, and just cruise. Couldn't imagine pulling a big bloody fish or cutting up bait in that one.

i love boating.... have done it mostly my entire life. Parents had a 16ft bow rider when i was born. Then upgraded to a 20ft, then a 24ft cabin cruiser, then a 25ft, and then a 34ft.....
34 ft pictured here. Bought brand new in '86 and sold it in '98. Got out of boating for a while.

Spent most of the time at the Cape / Block Island / Nantucket / Marthas Vineyard / Montauk
Now that I have small kids, im getting back into it-
Have a 18ft bow rider at the moment

You are having a laugh! mate is that your boat? WOW i want one! :eagerness:

Darn right Tone!! Its got a 5.7L v-8, top speed of 40mph, 70 gallon fuel tank, 2 queen size sleeping areas, flushing toilet, alcohol/electric stove, transom shower and one in the head, 2 sinks and I'm in it for half its book value :eagerness: This thing gets a ton of looks around here, not very many cabin cruisers on the missouri river (especially in Nebraska CIty there are some around omaha). It even gets looks at the gas station, ofcourse it is bigger than my truck!
2180
Its great because my kids (3 and 7) can go hang out down in the cabin if they're bored of boating and play their video games and let me and the wife relax, have a drink, and float down the river. Never thought I'd want one like this, but as of right now i wouldnt go back!

BuellyBagger that is awesome! the kids must love it what a brilliant childhood memory that will be for them! I am not a major boat person but that could change my mind! and i have always loved boat power the way they squat at the back, lift at the front and leave that amazing looking wake! (if thats what its called!) Has it got that big V8 sound? and how can that place not be glamorous it looks pretty bloody good to me mate i love it!! :eagerness:
BuellyBagger

Has it got that big V8 sound? you get just little V8 rumble from it at wide open. There is a guy that runs the local machine shop that has a 36ft fountain with 3 500hp big blocks, i can here him coming up river behind me even when mine is running!! now his boat, SOUNDS AMAZING!
I know there's a ton of different boat manufacturers in North America, but guess I've never researched if there's many major European boat builders... Tone, Any production boat manufacturers in the UK??
Those jet boats look like they'd be super fun chicago!!
My eyeball was twitching after every run out on the lake over every little scratch and mare.
I am little like that (was worse with the bow rider) its not a bad trait for a boat owner, in moderation, being super picky and taking care of your boat means your investment wont go to crap and occasionally you can even improve the boat over the years and make some money on it.

Buelly i wish i could answer that question about boat makers in the UK but unfortunately i have no knowledge of that as i have never really thought about it but who knows what you have started now!! lol and that other boat sounds like a James Bond type boat! all the fish must be deaf now! lol Your boat would be so much nicer to live with though, much more usable i think!

Although not nearly as nice as most the boats above my little boat gets me into all kinds of great camping spots and is perfect for bow fishing.
