Went for a ride today and my check engine light came on. It starts, Idels, and runs fine I filled up today but it want till later on when it came on. How do I check what code it is or what do you think it could be? Before it came on I thought I smelled plastic buring but how could I smell that going 70? Point me in the right direction before I'm forced to go to HD and give them my liver to fix it?

I rigged up a nice little "jumper cable" to throw in my tool pouch after my CEL came on for loose battery terminals. I just used a wire, put two connectors at each end that will fit snug around each terminal (not sure what the proper name of the connectors are), and went to town. Works like a charm.

CEL Code Thread

Sweet!! Thanks for the help! I made the CEL give me the code and it was the Fan. So I figured I start small and work my way up. Checked the fuses and sure enough it was bad! Fuse and no CEL!! Called HD and they said it was $45 just check....

and it was the Fan
usually the result of fan building up reluctance to spin freely from oil being spewed upon it from leaking rear rocker box cover gasket. if it happens again i'd start by looking in that vicinity for the culprit.
