Bought the bike with 16k on it, now at 24k. I was cleaning it and noticed on a few teeth (at the base) some material separation starting to happen. Should my concern be higher? Figure it still has a way to go, still looks good.

There are no major cracks, rips, stress, or issue with the belt, but this doesn't mean that it's not heading that way.

Just curious what other riders experienced before they needed to replace the belt.

Cheers!

a belt is a belt whether on polairs, buell, H-D or whatever. if there are signs of fatigue where a tooth sits on the base i'd replace it.

you know how to remove it properly, correct? it's extremely simple on XB's because of the bridge on right side of swingarm. remove the allen screws attaching it to swingarm and remove it. the belt slides out thru that opening. to avoid problems when purchasing a new belt i recommend counting the teeth on your existing belt to assure accuracy. the 2003 belt only is narrower than later years. with a proper tooth count you can order online, thru ASB, or local dealer. supposedly some new replacement belts come with alleged lifetime warranty though i don't know wich ones they are.

Yea, I have taken off my tires a few times that I now have a process, but I never took off the bridge from the swing arm. Thanks for the input, always appreciate advice.

I can read the numbers off my old belt which are G0500.1AAH with is an OEM belt and runs about $150 online. I haven't called any H-D places yet since they are closed today, but they tend to raise the price even more...depending on the store.

But I found some other belts on a cross-reference thread and wondered if anyone had used them or is using them.
