Any tips? Front cylinder, seems to be about 1/4 inch from getting on all the way. Tried gently using channel locks and pliers, but I can't get the bastard on. My little Racoon hands have been at it for nearly an hour.

Mine does not seat all the way to the cylinder when all the way on. There will be like a half inch gap. You are probably good.

I had a similar problem last month, it did not feel like the spark plug and wire were fully connected. I disconnected the spark plug wire from the ignition coil to remove it and found the rubber boot had slid down the cable enough to not allow the spark plug terminal to fully engage with the wire snap lock.

Might not be your exact problem but something to look for.

Can't. In true garage mechanic fashion, I also managed to rip a hunk of the rubber seal off the rear plug wire. Now I must go get a new rear wire then try it out.... That 3/8 inch fuel line trick for the rear plug was the best thing I ever read.
