First try a 'Sealmate', or a piece of plastic film or business card to see if it's just a dirty seal you've got.
If that doesn't work, your best bet is to follow the manual.
If you don't have one, this guy's tutorial video (http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eIe1esOIobQ) is decent.

Sealmate will work, unless you've got a pretty big gash.

Watch this youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIe1esOIobQ It's a great resource.
Instead of using a piece of PVC for a seal driver use electrical tape. Wrap the electrical tape around the fork tube about 20 times tightly over itself to create some height then use it to drive the seal in by tapping the fork tube down into the seal. It works great and will not damage the seal.....plus it costs about $1 versus buying a fork seal driver tool.
