Is that ....... metal? ... or some peeled off RTV maybe?
Shawns
05-19-2014, 06:23 AM
Nope it's metal.
I'm sure its nothing... It looks like it was extra metal for that one thing. Not important, it should run better now that it's lighter. :D
but really HOLLY POOP, :D (i said poop) :D

Yeah I'm going to take it to a local shop that has an ex buell race mechanic. I'm guessing its not gonna be cheap.:(

can you tell if it's cast aluminum or billet steel?

Just realized this was in the 1125 forum.... ignore my statement. [sad]

Eh, I found similar stuff in my cr. That was thousands of miles ago. Still runs great

I'm guessing steel since it was stuck to the magnet of the drain plug. I would rather be safe than sorry. Going to have to put some purchases on hold till I know for sure. If the big bore kit wasn't so expensive I would go that route if it had to be broken down.

Any updates? I'm pretty curious here.....

Hopefully I'll hear something today or tomorrow. I was told since it's not making any new noises I shouldn't be that worried. I always expect the worse.

Almost looks like the clutch ramp from an XB... Hope the clutch ramp on the CR looks different.

Clutch is hydraulically actuated so no ramp like the xb, I thought the same thing till I realized this thread was in the 1125 forum.

I might be mistaken- using only my logic instead of looking for the answer somewhere.
Hydraulic clutch doesn't mean there is no ramp. Just means there is no mechanical cable connecting lever to assembly. The clutch inner workings remain mainly the same (although I have not been inside my cr yet). Clutch still needs to put pressure on something other than the engine in order to disengage. People have converted the xb clutch to hydro I believe... still has and uses the ramp I am sure since I don't know how it wouldn't.

I had very similar parts in my strainer as well and for some reason I'm pretty sure it's part of the starter gears.....I'm probably wrong. ...

The clutch in a XB using a spinning ramp, therefore switching to a hydraulic setup on a xb only replaces the cable with a slave cylinder that fulfills the pulling action that the cable used to. The action on a XB is also back to front inline with the bike. The 1125 cluch is hydraulic and uses a sleeve/cylinder that actuates the cluch instead of a ramp setup. This action also takes place from left to right perpendicular to the bike.
Therefore no it does not have a ramp like the XB does.

I once restored a 197x Honda CB750 that had been sitting for 10+ years. Engine was locked up. After squirting oil (or maybe it was transmission fluid?) in each of the spark plug holes and letting it sit for a week, I pushed the bike onto the street, pushed it as fast as I could run, hopped on, and slammed it into 2nd gear. The engine broke free, and I had it running within the next few day.
When I changed the oil, I found a significantly-sized broken piece of piston ring in the oil pan. Funny thing is, the bike ran perfectly! I was even able to balance vacuum across the carburetors. Had I not seen the metal ring, I never would have known.
I doubt yours is a piston ring, but it sure looks just like mine did :)

I'm hoping its from starter gear. Hopefully I'll know soon enough. I would love a 2010 motor, but that would be a large expense.

Putting my front end back on today and come to find out the steering stem in bent all kinds of funny. That's the only part I didn't have new. New forks, triples, head bearing, front wheel bearings, brake pads. All new. The only existing part left, the steering stem. Ughhhhhhh

Here are a few. I have a lot of spare parts. Unfortunately this is not one of them.

Thanks again sir. Do let us know what's up with yours. Since I pulled the same **** outa mine recently I really am curious. Mine did appear directly after I did the stator upgrade. I really think it's in the starting system though. That's what I tell myself every time it starts knocking like hell. It can't be serious, surely I can just roll start it!

So, they found nothing major. Bike has good compression nothing evident with out breaking the whole motor down. They believe it is from the shift selector and the drum? Not ready for a valve service yet so a riding I shall go.
