So, I just put brand new tires front and rear of my bike, Shinko stealth ultra softs. The front tire is great but I am already on the wear bars on the rear...Ive got about 1000 miles on it. I ride hard on a daily basis, no burnouts ever. It amazes me that its already gone. I just ordered a new tire.. a Michelin pilot power. Hopefully I get some more out of this tire.

I read reviews of this tire and people claim its got great tread life. Maybe its just the way I ride? No track unfortunately...only some nice country roads.

I knew I wouldn't get too far on u-softs, but only 1000mi...?

In my opinion The pilot powers you ordered are really good tires, however they are a little on the softer side and will probably net you around 4-6k miles (just an educated guess having ran a couple of sets) ...

I would recommend the Michelin Pilot Road 2's or 3's personally ... I've never noticed a lack of traction on the 2's ... all 5 of my bikes ride on them now ... and I've had some pretty damn good mileage on them over all of my bikes ... even my literbike gets very good life out of them (about 8,700 miles on my last rear, front is still going for now) ... Everybody has their brand/tire of choice, those are mine ... I'm not a fan of shinko tires, my S1 came with a shinko rear and all it would do is slip and slide around like an Icon drift bike whenever I got hard on the throttle ... I ripped that tire off as fast as I could once I got a new set for it ....

I have also found these to be EXCELLANT! My buddy rides a newer R1 and he got me to try these. I was leary of the 'hard' compound centers, but I have nothing but good to say now. IF I have anything as far as a compromise, it would be straight line traction in SUPER cold temps. (Under 35 degrees....as far as a bike goes, I consider this super cold?!). And even then, keeping this in mind, it isn't scary bad or anything. I have over 7k miles on this et....still good life left, but they are starting to 'feel' as though they have some miles now.

So you bought a soft as chewing gum drag racing tire and are surprised that it didn't last on the street? Heck, 1000mi is 4000 passes at the strip; that's some GREAT treadlife! Lol! :D

Right tool for the job; it's the perfect way to avoid a LOT of different problems. :p

I only WISH I'd gotten that many runs out of the Hoosiers and M/T's on my Mustang! :)

Why are you running race tires on the street? Even super sport tires are unnecessary. I know that my Q3's are softer than I need, but the price was hard to beat. PR's have great reviews and I'd like some, but they also carry a pretty price tag that I find difficult to justify when there's great sport tires for less. I'll be trying PP2CT's next time around, if prices stay the same.

Take note that even though both PP2CT's and Q3's are sport tires, they are dual compound. I will not run single compound tires if I can avoid it.

But seriously, the name says it all, "Ultra Soft", what kind of mileage did you expect???

Yea, these things are meant for the track meaning you'd normally expect to get 1 race out of them if you're sponsored, and no more than 3-5 races if you're amateur.

If you're looking for mileage plus all the performance you practically need on the street, you're going to want something dual compound or even sport-touring.

Only reason I bought the rear is because the bike came with a brand new, unmounted, matching front. I knew I wasn't going to get a million miles out of it and I was okay with that. I thought I would get a season or maybe a little less. Oh well...lesson learned right?

This made me lol ...

Lol right on ... the Q3's and PP2CT's that Jetlee mentioned are both excellent tires ... I like the Road 2's because of the extended tread life personally ... you can't go wrong with any of the tires that have been suggested thus far ... just stay away from any soft compound tires unless you plan on a track day and look into the two compound tires that tire manufacturers offer today ... much more bang for the buck on the street ... :)[up]

Oh ... and have a nice day ...
