got a head start on taping and covering the rear end tonight, will continue in the morning with the rest of the prep work before the rattle can goes into action

Do you have cheese cloth or tack rag? It does a great job of cleaning dust off the surface prior to paint.

yeap, cheese cloth[up], lot more tapping and covering to go, then some minor sanding before the wipe down...respirator on standby as well

Given it's just the chassis you're painting so perhaps the finish doesn't need to be flawless, but I've always had great rattle-can results by working my way up to 1200 grit paper between coats, then finishing off with buffing & polishing compound.

its also best to prep before you paint... dirt dust and anything extra can get caught in the tape but at a moments notice be released and ruin your paint job.

prep prior to paint is usually a red or gray scotch brite pad for a spray can. with bb cc its different

all prep work completed, then finished the tape and cover up of the entire bike to avoid any overspray...all done, just have to install the axle slider next

thanks guys, it's been stated many times that the key to it is prep work...so took that and ran with it. glad I did.
I wrinkled the butcher paper to make it easier to manipulate around the bike. folded two pieces of the butcher paper and in the center, cut out a circle which when put in place went around the axle, did this to both sides. used 1 and half rolls of painters tape and one plastic drop cloth to cover the bike. in covering the bolt heads on the swing arm, I used one of those pocket screwdrivers that have a magnet on the end, removed the magnet and it's perfect for flattening the tape onto the bolt. used the blade of the screw driver to pierce the tape and repeated the process all the way around the bolt head. then again flattened the tape with the other end making sure coverage was proper. used fine grit sand paper all around since most of the scratches were minor to blend in.
