I rode a 2008 1125R before I bought my 2008 XB12R. The thing was as serious as a heart attack. Steering was ****, I don't think the suspension was even close to set up right. It tried like hell to wash out the front end at low speed, but was a ton of fun in a straight line. Fuel maps were ****** but I understand there was a fix for that. looking back I could have bought a 1125R for what I paid for my Bolt but I couldn't get used to the 1125 side pods. I love my Bolt but as time goes on I really wonder if I should have bought the 1125........

^^ Really? I just bought a CR to go with my 12R and I must say I think that the CR is very, very nimble, steering is nice and crisp (responsive), suspension feels great, tuned ecm + RT3 pipe = very smooth running, lots of power, and very, very loud!
FWIW - I think the CR pulls off the side pods about a million times better than the 1125R.

Performance wise, an 1125 is everything an xb is, except there is more of it. Powerband feels the same except it just keeps going. Handling is the same except it is more refined and responsive. Different character. The 1125 seems more of the bastard child of my old r1 and xb. A nice mix of both with a hell of a temper. But tame when you want it to be. Definitely one of the greatest bikes I have ever had the pleasure to learn and own.
I will say I had slightly more fun on the xb. An amazing bike in its own right. The 1125 is much more serious. Also likely due to the lack of tickets received on the xb. Or worrying about receiving such tickets. I do not have a lack of tickets with the 1125. It begs to be flogged on. It wants you to go fast. Its so easy. It also gets damn expensive lol damn go fast certificates.

And I will second that. The cr is a gorgeous bike. The curves flow so well.
The pods kind of grow on you.

I've had both at the same time, an 08 1125R and an 07 12R.
Like everyone else said there is a big power difference, but really its more that the power comes in later and lasts longer. Where I can have fun on the bolt at 50- 60mph the 1125 has to be 80+ for the same fun.
I find the 12R to be the better handling bike(shorter wheelbase).
But power wheelies on the 1125 can't be beat.
My bolt averages 50 mpg whereas the 1125 was down around 35.
the 1125 has heat problems. It gets smoking hot, ie the frame can burn the inside of your legs on a hot day. Fuel boil in the frame is a constant. I even insulated the inside of the frame but it only delayed how long it took to get hot.
also add a cooling system and regular valve adjustments.
It was a super fun bike.
in the end though it went for a Uly. (thats probably my age kicking in)
It's really just the next evolutionary step in the R lineup.

I own an 1125cr and love the bike. Just started it up on the first try after sitting for four months yesterday. I have ridden the xb12r and 1125cr, though definitely more miles on the latter. (Just passed 10k on the odometer on the way to it's annual checkup and tire change) It has been a great bike for me these past four years and power has never been an issue out here where I ride in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Fuel is a bit tricky sometimes between longer fuel stops and it does get hot like the guy above me stated. It really loves cool morning commutes to work.
I plan to buy an XB12r in the coming years however just because I would like to not wake the entire neighborhood up and I love how drop bars handle on it. (My 1125cr has the high bar setup) Like other folks have stated, sometimes you just gotta buy one of each.
