Just got myself a 99 X1 with roughly 13k on it, V&H exhaust and forcewinder intake, otherwise stock. Bike ran great and pulled like a freight train...until...I ran out of gas this morning. I managed to coast to a gas station and fill her up. You guessed it, now it runs pretty bad. Putting around at 30mph in second or third gear is really bad. Smoothes out a bit once you get moving but lost a bunch of torque. I am guessing based on my research that my AFV is way up and the bike is running rich now. I bought some new plugs for it and went out for a 30 mile ride, hoping the the ECU would relearn, but no such luck...still runs like garbage. Am I going to have to buy a cable and reset the AFV with ECM spy? Never ran into this problem with either of my XBs, but then again I never ran out of gas on either of them either!

Thanks

don't know about X1s, but anytime I ran out of gas in anything else that had some years on it and then it ran like **** it turned out to be dirt/sludge/rust/condensation in the fuel tank when it got sucked up from running empty, Just sayin'.....

I'm an XB guy as well so no specific help but I would guess the same thing mrlogix said.

I'm with mrlogix as well. Check your fuel filter, screen and pump. Can't think anything else would go heywire just from running out of petrol... ...oops, I mean gas.
