Hi.
Odd question but the bolts/pins that support the brush guards on my XB12STT and also happen to be the pivot (right terminology?) for the clutch/front brake levers are seriously corroded. So i took them off and dremmeled them down to bare steel. Now I'm trying to find a way to get them back to 'black' without painting them - any paint, even Hammerite eventually flakes or ruptures when you apply a spanner however gently. I've asked around and no-one seems to know what i'm talking about (PS, don't walk into an engineering shop and say "do you have anything that'll turn my nuts black?"). I've read about hot black oxide but that seems too complicated. Is there something i'm missing - a product, a technique? How were they originally treated?
Any help would be appreciated.[confused]

you could have them powder coated or you could just use good ol' Rustoleum.

I used Rustoleum Matte Black on the bolts when I redid my Jeep and had no issue with the paint flaking off even while using and old socket.
