Hi I'm tony. I recently acquired an 03 XB9S that I thoroughly enjoy riding, but I have a concern I'd like some input about...

it has 3500 original miles, and sounds like one of the previous owners gutted the can (ugly welds and minor leak at one of them). When I turn it on, it wont start cold unless i crank the throttle a couple times right after it turns over. then idles fine.

When accelerating, unless i give it over 2k rpm from a stop in first gear, it'll stutter a bit. its very hesitant when letting out the clutch and no throttle, like lack of air or fuel. the a/f mixture off? all other gears and speeds on freeway are ok.

I changed the spark plugs today and took pics. any other ideas? thanks!

Welcome to the Forum. Not quite sure what that could be, but it doesn't sound good for a newly purchased used bike with only 3500 miles.

Might want to give it a good inspection at your local HD stealership just to make sure it's all good to go.

Tony, my 9 would stumble at starts, did the breather reroute as per articles in the forum, stumble gone. Idles smooth at 1000 rpm. Might also check for a TPS reset from dealer. My 2 cents. Brian.

Welcome to the Forum Tony. :D[up] Congrats on the Bike. An '03 w/3500 miles on it must have sat for quite awhile at some point and time. I'd either drain the gas and refill w/high test or add some Seafoam.

Also the TPS reset would be a good idea, as mentioned. Here's a thread that has some great info, including the standard Breather re-route that should help with the 2K Rpm stumble: New Bueller Info (http://www.buellxb.com/Buell-XB-Forum/General-Motorcycle-Chat/for-the-new-buellers-here...)

what i would do is give it a complete service so you know what's in your bike.

- check your idle
- since mileage/age is low, i would recommend a tps reset (don't forget the learn in)
- do the breather reroute
- check if the white wire is cut, if not, cut it/disconnect it (if you don't have a race ecm)

;)
