Have a new-to-me '04 Buell Lightning XB12S. Am looking at the possibility of occasionally using the bike for short trips and would like to purchase a detachable windshield/windscreen. The only thing I've seen is the entended fly screen which isn't nearly large enough to provide wind protection. There is a tall windscreen available for the Ullyses, but there is no indiation that the product will fit a Lightning XB12S. Does anyone know of a supplier of a true detachable windshield for the Lightning.

Thanks,

i am looking also..my girlfriend has one for her 883 superlow that i am going to measure..might actually fit..but prolly not.
i will let you know if a find one.

This is just a slipstreamer spit fire, via ebay. I haven't gotten to try it on anything other than a short ride so far. With the length of the arms and the low rise of my handlebars I was limited on adjustment. It blocked the wind from hitting my body, but still was just as loud on my helmet. I made extensions for the arms and can get the mirror a big higher and more forward so I need to go try it again. It's not a dedicated shield for the lightning, but a lot of removable mirrors just come with mounts for 7/8 handlebars. If I could've afforded it I would've gotten a taller one, but I only needed it for a 1 time trip so I didn't want to spend a ton on it. Madstad is the only one I know who makes options just for the lightning.

very cool!
i wish i could find one that worked like the harley one my g.f. has..just four latches and it is on in less than a minute..this one looks like it would take some time to put on...or maybe not?

just looked at madstad website...looks like a good idea to avoid tubulance. they show the ulyses..i guess the same one fits the lightening.

I have a Madstad one on order right now. I'll post up how it looks and works once its on.

The one I have isn't too complicated. There are 2 quick release brackets that fit on the bars, and the metal bars on the windshield then slide into those brackets and tighten down. They only complicated part is that you have to try to hold it where you want it then tighten stuff down, and once the brackets are tight it won't move. It would be easier if you had someone there to tighten everything up while you held the windshield. No complaints though.

second on the use of the Spitfire on the XB. takes the wind off your body and looks pretty good, IMO. we had to monkey with it a bit to get the fit right but no buffeting at all.

Man o man that's ugly, I got a 70mile round trip every night to work, about 46-50degrees every night. Deal with the wind or wear a hoodie under ur helmet. Don't ugly up ur buell w/ some riot shield!!

have you seen my thread..."an alternative"...uses the windshield from a firebolt and mounts just like the stock 9/12s windscreen
