The heel guards you are showing used to be a factory accessory, but they discontinued them last summer about the same time they dropped the race kits. Just sand you stockers down and shoot them with a can of Black Texture engine paint you can get from your local Harley dealer.

yea...but it's not as strong as the anodized ones :(
was thinking of doing it myself, but i don't have a clue what grade of aluminum the plates are. so i don't know if they will survive it. [smirk]
does anybody have been plates??? pleaaaaaaaaaaase? :p

I did some more research on them, dug out my 2003 Buell P&A book and found out the front ones are still available to order through your dealer.
Rider - 50340-02Y
The passenger ones are not available anymore through the dealer, but I did a search of the country and camne up with these dealers who have them. If you call them, they might ship them to you, if not go to your local dealer and ask them to transfer them for you.

That's kinda what I figured, if I can find 'em I let you know how much they are and if you want I pick 'em up and ship 'em to you. I'm going to Uke's Buell tommorrow but I'm not sure if parts dept will be open. Uke's is a phenominal Buell dealer. I'll let you know;)

Now, one thing with these listings is, they are not a guarantee that they actually have them. And even if they do, they still might not want to sell them. This is just what Harley's system shows me when I run the part number nation wide.

now, i can understand a system that is not up to date on certain things untill stock-count is done, but a dealer/merchant/seller not wanting to sell stuff [confused]

Yeah, they will want to hold on to it just because of what it is, and they know it will be a wanted item soon. Either that or it is already spoken for on a job or something.

LeFox, I called both my local dealerships and they both said the same thing, "obsolete part, don't have one". I also called Ukes which is where my Jenn bought her CityX and is less than an hour from the Buell plant and is probably the most connected Buell dealer in the country. Unfortunatly they said the same thing. I will start going down the list that BPG gave to see if any one still has them and willing to part with them.

Hey LeFox, I found a dealer who knows that they are not really obsolete they are just coming from a different vendor and show up obsolete when a dealer does a search by part #. If your still interest I can email you with the info. He is glad to ship international and if you are a BadWeb member you get a discount as they are a BadWeb sponser. Let me know. H&H

Appleton HD/Buell is the Badweb sponsor I talked to, buellerandy is the sales guy there. They are $33.30 after there badweb discount, with the US dollar at an all time low you probably have that much in your couch cushons :D. I'm not sure about shipping but here is Andys' phone number: 920-757-1651 Or contact him here (http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/17143/67339.html?1190394080) in the "Andy, I need it now" thread. Why not just paint the ones you have with wrinkle finnish paint? You could also have them hard annodized, that would make them practicaly indestructable.

Just incase no one can find them. How would you go about sanding these down? What grade of sand paper would you use? Sorry, I don't know anything about preping something to be painted.
His_and_Her_Buells
03-26-2008, 03:25 AM
I like a light sandblasting. It gives aluminum a nice texture for the primer to really grab onto. But in all honesty powdercoating is the way to go on these. Paint simply won't hold up to the wear of your heel rubbing.

Paint the stock ones? It wont be anodized but it will be black :p
