Has anyone cut up their stock cover? The after-market is too expensive. If you have cut it, let's see some pictures. I might try the below cut unless someone can show me something better.

how does it look on the bike?
How did you paint pulley? I am hoping to do something pretty cool, will let everyone know what I come up with. Will be a stock pulley mod.

Come-on guys, there has got to be more. The fact that the alt is mega $$ means that lots of you guys have done something yourself. Please help me out and give me some more ideas!

Sorry about the dark pic, but here ya go..
With the pulley, just sanding, careful cleaning, black primer, then black paint :)

Looks like a good idea, might look into it

Very nice, Since my bike has color, Maybe I will make that window and then do a red-stripe. No beer pun intended.

Alright, Copied Johnny-kids cut. Hope you don't mind!
Close up looks like crap since I did it quick. I might spray whole inside black, then go with just the circular red stripe.
What do you guys think?

Great! [up]
I Might suggest to paint the pulley with golden paint to mach your wheels, then add red stripe! Then red stripe for wheels would fit also :)

Never mined the Freespirits cover but I polished my pulley with a light grit sand paper and hit the rest with rattle can Duplicolor truck bed liner and then I sprayed the whole thing with a rattle can clear coat. Have about 3K on the clock and no problems have arisen.

I cut mine up, just a circle the same size as the front pulley. I'm in the process of making a cover for the pulley that I can put the buell logo on it. I think when it's not moving it'll look like it's the stock cover with a logo on it. I thought about just leaving it uncovered but the nut and locking washer are a bit too industrial looking for the clean lines of the bike. I'll get some pictures a little later. I think I might have a video on my phone too.

cut up mine in a hurry but you get the idea. the vents were a last minute add on. the only advice i can give is, use a dremmel that has speed adjustment. that was my problem.http://www.buellxb.com/buell_images/7221_20100827081708_L.jpg

Mines open as well. I'd like to paint the sprocket red, but with a chain conversion it stays pretty grimy and dirty so I've left it as is.

You can always just paint them for a unique look . Only cost is can of paint . Krylon plastic spray works. If you do not like paint thinner can remove color .

Lockplate? Why use a lockplate?
that's the safety so the nut doesn't back off, use a lock washer with tabs that can be bent over a flat or two of the nut would be better than nothing at all...
anyway, did this a couple of nights ago, may get another cover and try something else though

shaylay...mothers polish, paste form and an all cotton t-shirt...dab a little polish like you're shinning a pair of boots and rub 'til it's black, then wipe off with clean area of t-shirt and that's what the finish looks like, works on steel and aluminum

Route0766, yes the chain does produce some additional grime. The conversion was done before I purchased the bike. Despite the dirt, I'm happy with it.

Just your run of the mill chopped stock cover with a one off sprocket cover. (dont hate me on the rusty bolts). The sprocket cover used to fit perfect but when i did the 04 sprocket it got a little gap but it looks ok. Then because the stock cover was for a smaller sprocket i got it to fit nice and tight with out much gap to the belt and sprocket.

I used the cheese grater like chriswill4ms did but I didnt really care for the bolts sticking out so I used some JB weld on the inside to keep the out side smooth still. I think it came out great and I am very happy with it.
